Trip Report I Will Survive.....Spring Break (with a hint of May) *COMPLETED*

At first I was afraid, I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live among the Spring Break crowds
But then I spent so many nights thinking how I could be wrong
And I grew strong
And I knew I could get along....

Well that’s what I’m hoping for anyway. I’m not a newbie when it comes to navigating Spring Break at WDW. I’ve got a couple decades of experience under my belt. “Spring Break” isn’t a single week of cray cray crowds (like the week between Christmas and New Years) but is spread over March and April. Unfortunately one (or more) of those weeks can end up being cray cray....and these days, there is no way to predict which one.

Please don’t let it be this week.

But we are prepared. ADRs at 180 days. FPs at 60 days. Clothing for rain or shine. (Praying for shine ~ we’ve had enough rain over the last 4 months to set an ark afloat.) And attitudes willing to “go with the flow.” 🐢

My goal is to keep the updates live. Should I fail? There’s always Part “Tu”.

Who: Tuvalu, Woody and Em (the teacher whose schedule dictates when we go)
When: Sunday, March 31 - Sunday, April 7, 2019
Where: Port Orleans French Quarter
Why: Let’s hope we don’t ask ourselves this!
How: We’ve done the plane, can’t take the train....so it must be the automobile!

Will we be smiling at the end of the week? Stay tuned.

And if you don’t hang around for the smiles, you may want to peek in and see if there are any WDWMagic meet ups. I know of at least three forum friends I hope to encounter.

Now it’s off to bed! The alarm is set for zero-dark-thirty.

Seven attractions and a table service lunch in 6 hours on a very busy Spring Break day isn’t bad. Though the park doesn’t close until 11 pm, wait times are now ridiculous. 7DMT is over two hours. (“We’ll come back this evening when the line will be much shorter,” we overheard a confident parent say.)

I can’t fathom what the hub will be like before Happily Ever After.

I’m glad we have other excuses (besides too crowded) to leave MK. Woody has a meeting; Em has two phone interviews (she screens teaching candidates for her district.) And it’s raining.

When we got back to our room Woody noticed the bathroom outlet was illuminated. “It must be fixed,” he declared.

Then I plugged in my hair dryer.

Nothing. And the indicator light went away.

Another call to maintenance. A worker came to check. “Yes, it’s dead.”
But she was unable to repair it. She had to call her supervisor who then arranged for an electrician to come over. And while worker #1 was still in our room, she noticed that the faux wood flooring is buckling and coming apart. She made note of that too. We also mentioned that the floor is very slippery. She said that is a result of the cleaning products that housekeeping uses, and there have been times that she has nearly slipped while wearing her work boots!

You typically don’t slip on carpet. Just sayin’.

The electrician came and reset the GCFI, which we suspect is what was done this morning after we’d left. Of course the minute he plugged in my hair dryer the fuse was blown again. He replaced the whole outlet (why wasn’t that done this morning?) and in doing so saw that a wire was loose.

You can bet I will be testing the outlet again before my next hair washing.

Look what showed up in MDE.

Em chose Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch.

We were in John Adams’ room.

Guess whose plate?

View attachment 360743

Did you guess mine?

If so, you’d be WRONG.

Em opted for the turkey. She said she wanted to try something new and was glad she did.

Woody ordered the pot roast....

View attachment 360738

....as did I.

Who are you and what have you done with Tuvalu???!!!

I wanted the parsnips that I’d tried when my mom had the pot roast on our trip in February. Plus, her roast was succulent!

My beef was every bit as good. The parsnips not so much. ☹️ They were bland.

If one Ooey Gooey Cake is good, two must be better.

LTT has changed the recipe and/or preparation of Ooey Gooey Toffee cake. I suspected as much on my last visit and now can confirm. The most important change is it is no longer served warm, and is therefore NOT gooey. It is two thin layers of crumbly dough with a cookie-like texture. The ice cream on top stays firm and the former nirvana of warm gooeyness contrasted with cold, melting ice cream is gone.

It is not a change for the better.

And the cast iron skillet? Plastic.
That makes me so sad. I have to say, it used to be one of my favorites, but last time my pot roast was not good, and the ooey gooey saved the meal. Cold on a plastic skillet just won't do it.

I'm here!
Looks like you got a lot done this morning! Have so much fun!
We did and we are!

Made me sad too.

Though I hate it’s not sunny, the cloud cover is providing a cool breeze keeping the temperature pleasant....which is critical when the park is wall-to-wall humans. It’s easier for me not to get frustrated when guests block passageways, stop suddenly without rhyme or reason and generally act like there aren’t thousands of people in the vicinity.

Cause all bets are off when it’s hot and sticky.

How busy is it? The only FPs we could find for after lunch were Pooh and here:

@Figment Forever still only one child on the elephant.

Wow - maybe by September they will be back? What about that empty moat? How long is it supposed to be empty? So glad you guys get to escape together for a while. I think it's so cool that Woody and Em can do work remotely from WDW. Have an awesome time and thanks for taking us along with you!! And I LOVE Em's HEA t-shirt!!!!

Not happy to hear this about the Ooey Gooey cake at Liberty Tree, that's really the only reason I go there. The other food is good too but the cake was the star. I guess I'll have to pull out the recipe I have for it and make it at home. Although maybe by the time I get back there they will have brought it back to normal.

Well that's exasperating. To not serve it warmed up, yet still call it gooey, is a travesty!! :banghead: I mean, what a stupid way for them to cut corners with this time-tested dessert. It's been a favorite of many park goers for years.

Have to agree - you need some coaching and some practice

We literally just missed the boat.

Tu easy - have to let this one go.

Onboard the Princess Bayou.
The lady behind you is looking at the card you handed her and is thinking “ who the heck is Tuvalu?”

Yeah I know
What a crazy weekend
Three of the number 1 seeds go down
Three of the final four teams are newbies or close to it
It truly is March Madness!!

Oh, not what you meant.....

Ummmm.......sorry?
But to be honest, I was in Boca Raton. How is the weather there???
We had a brief five minutes of sunshine today. The rest of the day was cloudy with some light rain mixed in. Forecast calls for a dreary morning.
But a crappy weather day at Disney beats any day at home!

The Dappers performed a humorous number with a couple celebrating their 26th anniversary. Loved it!
Would love the Ooey Gooey recipe.....have you posted it in the recipe thread?

Preach it, Minnie!!

I love the flying tires shirt!!!
I recently found it tucked away in a drawer. Got it on my trip to DLR with Em in 2013. Luigi’s Flying Tires was one of our favorite rides. We rode it multiple times and couldn’t stop laughing!
