I want more Pirates, dammit

I remember years ago being in DL and there was this guy with an armful of dolls, which I thought was strange as he didn't look like a father. I looked at them, never had heard of them but thought, OK I will get one for my daughter. The movie had not yet been released but they were Anna and Elsa dolls. The internet has spawned some cool things, but Ebay pirates are not one of them.

Come to think of it, Disneyland previously had an explicitly pirate-themed restaurant:

Gone long before my first visit, so I really don't know anything about it.
a concept that would never work today... not counting ADA... but crowds are so much bigger now that you wouldnt even be able to get near it for quite a bit (heck the treehouse is more crowded than it ever should have been) the idea of kids running around and playing on the ship sadly is in the past. I ordered disneyland in 3D i cant wait to see all of these early disneyland days in 3d pics when the book arrives.

I've always said that there is not enough of a Muppet presence in the parks. ;) I'm sure the OP would agree. GIVE US MORE MUPPETS!!
Not to mention this catchy, epically amazing yet forgotten song which was given to us from the Muppet library of films.

I am on board. Right across from PotC is the seldom open Tortuga Tavern thats nicely pirate themed. They should look at changing that into a better place to dine with a tastier menu instead of a seasonal stop over for QS.
that sounds like the best option. i can’t see a full scale restaurant being built considering the space. only option i can think of is closing down the tiki room & expand tortuga to a full scale restaurant, & i’m not in favor of that.

They need to restore WDWs to its original glory with a disclaimer. Then redo the entrance. As you enter you can go left or straight. left takes you through the queue we all love (maybe plussed but same feeling) and then the "socially unacceptable ride" This would cost very little to do.

If you go straight though..... you enter the world of pirates..... the best theming ever seen street scapes market places pirates walking around... real cobblestone walkways-- all leading to the best of the parks brand new pirates ride that sometimes has real characters portaying pirates on the ships etc (like special unannounced plussing) Im a firm believer in the vintage amazing pirate ride we have, but i think we could add the best poc and be a game changer in the theme park world.
Exactly I want more non PC themed E ticket attractions

be careful what you wish for. Remember the Jack Sparrow show (I forget the name) that was at HS for a few years? I think you need to spend some time chillin' on the Peter Pan ride and see a little Hook. 😜
Man that show was horrible. Utter garbage.

Wasn't that Hollywood studios thing really just a test of some of the tech for Shanghai mixed with some movie promotion?

You can still climb over a pirate ship at Disneyland Paris.

If they'd remove the Jack AAs and rework the stoopid Auction Scene all would be forgiven. POTC is a mess! I don't even mind the Redd character so much. Just the scene in general. Beyond dumb! Anything they can do to restore it to it's original glory, the better. Not even worth visiting unless the wait time is 30min or less.

I can envision them going half-way -- getting rid of Jack AAs. As for the auction scene, that pirate ship has sailed.

I want MORE Pirates in WDW, in Adventureland. I want a Pirates-themed restaurant/show at least. I think Disney's fantasy version of pirates is sublime and inimitable. When I walk into Pirates of the Caribbean, I get chills. I'm in another world. If anything Disney owns is a Potter-swatter, that's it. I don't understand why Disney has Star Wars all over the damn place but so little Pirates overall. (Well, actually, I DO know why that is, Star Wars is an Iger acquisition, and the idiot thinks it's his legacy, pfffft). Anyway, that's my take. I'd also like at Tip Top Restaurant adjoining the Tower of Terror, since I'm dreaming here...

I wouldn't mind seeing POTC get a little darker with more pirates and pirate activities. The removal the mermaid bones, pretty much the completely empty first scene after the pirate ship battle, and the changing of the auction really leave the attraction lost for me. The song and smell save it because I remember how it was. Right now it's caught between kiddo and teen/young adult appropriate. A child's ride targeting older kids and young adults. I don't think it works. I think they should choose a direction, my preference the latter. Add more pirates to the first scene instead of animals chasing each other. Make the pirates a little scarier, and overall a little more authentic. Darker, scarier

That'd be a good start! I'd be willing to bet that any self-proclaimed scriptwriter/screenwriter on a freelance website like Fivrr could come up with a better scene using snappier dialog. It's just SO bad! I think my biggest issue with the entire Auction scene is how straightlaced it plays. It's gross over-correction with hints of morality.

Pirates don't bid on things. They just steal them. If instead the scene were presented like one big joke, as if the pirates are making fun of high society with an impromptu auction showing off their stolen wares as they make fun of each others loot; it would play much better. But really anything would be better. I also wouldn't mind them changing the voice actress to someone that sounds less like Granny from Beverly Hillbillies to something a little more mysterious and foreign like Eva or Zsa Zsa Gabor.

The first improvement would be returning all scenes featuring Jack back to the classic scenes before he was squeezed in.

Something tells me that her voice will soon sound like Margot Robbie.

Also remove him from the barrel. Restore those to their originals.
In 2020, if they were to bring back the naked woman who originally was hiding in the barrel as a pirate gawks and snorts over her clothing, there would be an internet backlash of fury like never before. Twitter as we know it would have a heart attack.

Let's just all agree that scene is history.

i got my scenes mixed up. Was thinking about the guy spitting out water. I did watch the original 1967 version on YT earlier. I saw what you mean. Also the words of the old guy next to her (show us your superstructure, I’d ride her, etc)

It used to have a fairly decent menu, as I recall. Granted, taco shell salads are a bit outdated in 2020, and I'm not sure why anyone thought pirates = tacos, but otherwise the food was decent for a MK QS.

I'm not sure how well Caribbean food would go over with the typical theme park visitor, but you never know. Maybe some jerk chicken, great conch salad or chowder or fritters, roasted pork, arroz con gandules, some kind of sweet potato salad...

Judging by the number of people who think Skipper's Canteen is too adventurous for their palette (despite, you know, being located in a section of the park called Adventureland!), I'm guessing a quick-service restaurant that serves real Caribbean food would be met with suspicion.

Now, if you want real pirate food... how about a serving of hard tack with a lard spread, and your choice of sides to include a strip of dried salt pork, brined herring or lye-cured cod. Wash it down with a dram of lime grog.
