When I first started reading these boards I thought I would never be that insane:hammer: into planning our trip, I read people with excel sheets and crowd levels. But last night while planning our trip (mostly now our dining reservations) I found myself sitting on the floor with one sheet of opening times for all the parks and EMH, another with the Fireworks/parade time, another sheet with places our group wants to eat at and activities we are doing and a MASTER sheet to fill in how we are going to fit it all in to see shows/fireworks and places to eat.:ROFLOL:

I've done Disney using excel spreadsheets and without them. It is great to use planning assistance when going at peak times and when you are there with big groups. The one thing I don't like to do is ADRs. We usually walk up and get in to a lot of the resteraunts we like.

You are so right! I just joined these boards and I spend hours researching for our next trip. A lot has changed since I last visited WDW! I was not sure about making all of my dining reservations in advance, but I think I will to assure we get into some of the restaurants we have never been to. Like you, I have the park hours and fireworks all layed out so I can plan our meals around them!

I put together a similar spreadsheet so while we're at the parks, we can decide what to do and have it all there in front of us. I also have a place to put ADR or other reservations so I have it for easy reference. I have a copy available for download if anyone is interested. It's located at: http://www.mediafire.com/?imdyimyfx91.

I don't like planning each day down to the ride, but I like this spreadsheet because it gives us options. It was quite handy when we had a party of 14 going together. This way, everyone knew where we would be but had the option of doing their own thing.

Have a great trip! :sohappy:

Welcome to the darkside, Mike45248!
I love the planning process. Making my spreadsheets puts me in the mood for a trip.
I make a calendar for my trip. Each day has the opening and closing of all the parks along with show times. The park hours are color coded to indicate EMH. Isn't that awful?! :p

My wife compares my planning for Disney to the Invasion of Normandy.
I too have a master spreadsheet with;
flight times
arrival times
estimated time to resort,
estimated check-in time
estimated time until I hear Please stand clear of the doors, por favor mantenganse alejado de las puertas" for the first time.
Which parks to visit on what days
where to eat
etc, etc, etc.
I also plan down to the last hankerchief what I am packing, carrying on and wearing.
My son and I think it is fun to plan. My wife thinks we're sick. Although as we get closer to our upcoming trip I have caught my wife watching "Disney travel" on demand and talking more about the trip. At dinner I have been asked what's going on at WDW?

OK, this thread ROCKS! Makes me giggle to hear about all of us and our spreadsheets! I couldn't imagine a trip without all the details right in front of me 5 or 6 months in advance! Husband has gotten used to me sitting on the couch with the laptop, my Disney folders and LIVE365 playing Park Hopper Radio while I plan away. Once you go "spreadsheets", you'll never go back!

I'm definitely the "planner" in my family. My wife doesn't like to plan because it will seem too structured, and she won't have as much fun if we are trying to adhere to any kind of schedule. Whenever she starts planning a WDW trip, I usually say something about EMH, fastpass, ADR's, etc. and she just stares at me blankly until I see the error of my ways. So we end up hitting the parks in a kamikaze style and we miss out on something we wanted to do/see/try every time.

When I was a kid, my family went to Florida (Pensacola or Panama City usually) nearly every year and the anticipation was half the fun.

Oh yeah. I'm right there with ya. My DW thought I was crazy when I was doing that. But, now she loves that I do it. I don't plan the minutes, but I do plan the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. It makes things go so smoothly.

Hmmmm. Plan or frontal lobotomy?

My planning consists of what parks we do on each day. This way I can make ADR's for places if we are in that park. That is about as much planning as I can do. We generally like to sleep in and get there when we get there. Having atleast somewhat of an idea makes it easier and we are not stuck with, what do you want to do today questions.

I am the same...I pick parks to visit for each day and then make ADRs based on that selection, but that is about the extent of my planning.

Now, what I do plan extensively is our budget for the trip. It helps to know how much we need to save and, most importantly, it helps us not to overspend while we are there.
