I feel like I'm alone...

Am I the only one who doesn't mind the wand and doesn't want to see it come down? I feel like everybody is against it and wants it torn down. Whether we want to admit it or not, the wand has become a part of SSE, Epcot, and WDW in general and we all know the place won't be the same without it. And it won't necessarily be in a good way.

No your not alone. I like the authenticity of the original SSE but I don't mind the wand at all, it gives it a different look. I don't think I will say that I think its great and all that, but I am not 100% anti-wand.

Out of curiosity, did you come to Epcot in the 80's and early 90's?

I think a lot of the wand hate comes from people who were fans of the original EPCOT Center and what it stood for.

My first trip to the world was in 82-83 and have been numerous times before the wand went up. I really don't see the big problem with it. I do understand what the "originalist" are saying, but I don't hate it like some do.

I've been to EPCOT/ WDW at least once a year, every year since 1992.

Different strokes, I suppose. I think its an eyesore and should never have stayed up after the millienium clelbration in the first place. I don't even like the sorcerer's hat in MGM, but that's just me.

The hat I have more of a problem with then the wand. I agree with that fact that it should have come down after the millienum celebration, just for the simple fact that it was a special one time thing. But I guess I didn't get that memo

No, you're not the only one. I've never understood why some people hate it.

hate to put it this way, but: Who cares? It's fine. What's the big deal?

Pretty sad to hear people whine about something like this.

Besides all the arguments about the design of SSE being ruined, this is exactly what it looks like from on stage-

I dont neccesarily hate the wand, but that doesn't mean that I like the wand, either. My first two trips were when I was 2 & 3 in the early 90's, so I dont remember SSE w/o the wand. My next trip after that wasn't till 2000, so the wand was up by then. I wouldnt mind if the wand got taken down, just to have the original look of SSE back, but Im not going to worry about whether or not the wand will be up or down for my next trip.

No the place won't be the same, but I hardly see how it could be anything but better.

Here's an image of the original look:

spa16bThe%20Geodesic%20Golfball%20(%20Spaceship%20Earth%20),%20Orlando.jpg

and here's an image of it with the wand:

I really fail to see how anyone can look at those two images side by side and fail to see the problem. The first image is a vision of beauty, an image of one of the architectural wonders of the world displayed in all of its beauty in a way that screams out hope and peace for our plant. The second takes that same image but makes it look like a tacky carnival sideshow. Its like taking the Mona Lisa and painting a mustache on her.

I didn't mind the 2000 tower. It was temporary and it was a fun way to mark the occassion. I also didn't mind the huge mirror and glits for the 50th celebrations on the castle, but had they stayed permananetly I'd have hated them as well.

Good point.....kinda of what I was trying to say. But I just don't have the hatred towards the wand as others do.

I like the wand and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I don't really like all the memory walls in front of SSE though.

I don't particularly like the hat at the Studios.

As far as I am concerned, I like change and update. I think it is fun to have new things and updates.

Those are just my opinions. But you are not alone. I'm all for keeping the big gaudy overdone wand. :sohappy:

If you are talking about the exposed steel work, then I guess you could say the same for the Eiffel Tower. No, it's not the Eiffel Tower, but I think the concept was the same. Myself I think the wand is a marvelous art stucture. I think the only problem with the Wand or the Hat is location. You move the hat right out side of the Disney Studios entrance to greet guest most people would love it. Move the Wand to greet guest when they arrive at Epcot, say on the Monorail route where it can be seen by guest arriving by automobile or bus. I think more people would see it for what it really is, a beautiful structure, especially at night. While we are at it, move the Leave a Legacy stones off to either side in future world, maybe over by the Land Paviliom. I think these are 3 ideas that everyone would be happy with. Well I guess not everybody, but most people. Accept for the Bean Counters,

Personally, I don't see what the big deal is about the wand coming down.
I like it!
