I feel like I'm alone...

I wouldn't mind the wand if it was not sitting on top of the wonderful SSE. To me its like putting a tiara on top of Cinderellas Castle which proclaims Magic Kingdom. I have no problem with the Magic Kingdom sign at the entrance to the parking lot and I wouldn't with an Epcot sign. I have a big problem with it being on top of this structure.

I'm not terribly bothered by the wand, but the hat is awful! It would be so much better on top of something tall for a better, but less obtrusive, impact.

No, I'm not saying to move it to SSE. :ROFLOL:

I think what miffs me the most is that they changed the lighting when they changed to the wand. I understand why they did it. They're trying not to cast shadows from the wand. So SSE toward the edges is in lavender which bleeds out to darkness and it has a touch of amber on the center.

This makes SSE looks smaller.

They can't do all the dramatic lighting they used to do with the sphere changing colors and having different facets being different colors from various vantage points.

It's static now, and to me, it sucks.

I like the wand,I love EPCOT now,but when SSE was wandless back in the day I was young and EPCOT honestly wasn't that exciting,I remember the park being very empty and just not being very appealing back then,If the wand does go,I'm going to miss it.

Now the MGM hat I probably wouldn't miss!!!!

As someone originally from Reno, Nevada, I suppose I should like huge tacky signs. However, I'm also someone who left Nevada, in part because of such gaudy displays. When I first encountered Spaceship Earth in 1996, I was blown away by the beauty of the structure. It was a bright, shining symbol of the future - a future of simple geometric designs. It represented to me what mankind could accomplish, as indeed did all of EPCOT.
Unfortunately, when I returned in 2000, I was sure whoever designed casinos had been let loose on EPCOT, regressing the Park to nothing more than yet another theme park. There were still some great attractions, but slowly the poison was sinking in, and EPCOT had become Epcot. Figment had been all but eliminated, the promise of Horizons was dead, people were more interested in cheap thrills from Test Track than from the wonderful pavilions that educated and entertained, and of course there was that big, dumb Wand. My faith in the Park has continued to diminish over time, as the stupidity grew. Wonders of Life is all but dead now, thanks to Disney's lack of willingness to provide it with the TLC it needed. The new Nemo attraction has no educational value until AFTER the ride is over. Soarin' lacks educational value, too. And the current Imagination is barely an improvement over the 2000 version. But at least Figment is back...even if his new voice is like nails on a chalkboard.
Ultimately, the Wand is a symbol of all that is wrong with Epcot. Tearing it down would be a wonderful first step in hopefully returning to something resembling the original vision. Some say EPCOT is dead; I prefer to believe it is like a phoenix, awaiting its moment to arise from the ashes of Epcot.
Oh, and the Hat and Tombstones need to go, too. Yet more bad 1990s thinking.

I think they were turning Epcot into what the majority of people were asking for. For every person you find that loves the educational value that Epcot use to be, I'll bet you that you could find three that thought it was boring. You've started to find more characters there, they have thrill rides now, the Wand was there, making it seem more like a Disney theme park. There is a pretty good balance of thrills, and culture, they just need to work on the educational side of it. Most people don't go on vacation to be educated, they can take classes at the local community college for that. If they worked on innoventions real hard I think they could give you, at least in part, what you want. I for one think that is two big buildings serving very little pupose now. It's still a beautiful park, and my favorite. As always, just my uneducated opinion.

The problem wasn't that people didn't like being educated, it was that disney quit really trying. EPCOT Center is a theme that could work very well but you have to constantly update things. Instead Disney left things the way they were and they quickly became very outdated. It takes a good bit of continual investment to keep a futuristic park feeling futuristic. Disneys had the same problem with FutureWorld as they have with Tomorrowland.

I really fail to see how anyone can look at those two images side by side and fail to see the problem. The first image is a vision of beauty, an image of one of the architectural wonders of the world displayed in all of its beauty in a way that screams out hope and peace for our plant. The second takes that same image but makes it look like a tacky carnival sideshow. Its like taking the Mona Lisa and painting a mustache on her.

I didn't mind the 2000 tower. It was temporary and it was a fun way to mark the occassion. I also didn't mind the huge mirror and glits for the 50th celebrations on the castle, but had they stayed permananetly I'd have hated them as well.

I have to agree. I really thought the stuff on the castle was fun and showed they were having a celebration...and that the castle now looks much better without it. As for the Hat, I really kind of like it...but then again, I've never been to MGM and the had not be there. The first time I stepped foot in that park was in 2005...so I don't know any better.

I've been to EPCOT many times, starting sometime in the early '80's, and I miss the entry to the park from back then, with the majestic music playing, and the gardens and all. I also miss Horizions, the World of Motion (my Grandmother's favorite ride), the original Living Seas, and the original Universe of Energy (WITHOUT Ellen...). Maybe getting rid of the want won't bring back those things I miss (but there are some nice things that replaced them...), but it WOULD help to bring back the original feel of the entry and SSE.

My first trip wasn't until 2005 so all I have ever known is the wand, so therefore I love it and have a strong emotional attachment to it. I don't have the emotional attachment to the pre-wand Spaceship Earth that alot of folks on this site do so therefore it is not a big deal to me. Based on pictures I have seen, I have more of a problem with the Leave A Legacy monuments than I do the wand. The entrance to EPCOT looked much more beautiful prior to the monuments.

So...NO, you are not alone!

I LOVE THE WAND!!!:sohappy:

The wand doesn't belong in EPCOT. It's like having a Velvet Elvis in a French Country living room. It is out of place and distracts from the effect of the Dome.

When they take the wand down, people will notice the architecture of the dome itself, without that glitzy crap hanging off the side. :fork:

:lol::lol: Yes I really really hate the wand. I would rip it off myself but I am afraid of heights.
