Hygene of water parks ... scientific research

I've skipped along the shallow pool at the bottom. There are no dips, it's just almost straight down. Closer to a free fall than a traditional water slide.
What does that mean? Skipped? Free fall? I've learned to question these things.

Are you basically falling dozens of feet and not connected to anything, then hitting a bump and being totally blinded by water?

Slush gave me a wedgie I didn't know was possible! I bet everyone who gets off those things has to undo a wedgie.

Just take a look at a picture. It's one long drop into a shallow pool of water and I've skipped across the water like a rock would skipping stones. You more feel the skipping as you hit the water; you're barely moving up and down (an inch would probably be a lot).

I'm not riding that thing.

But thanks! :D

Aww luv, it honestly isn't that bad. It's not a free fall. The angle isn't nearly steep enough. And if you feel a bit of a lift, physics...those laws of nature that are unbreakable, guarantee that you will come to no harm. I think you probably made things worse on the Slush n Gusher by uncrossing everything. If you just make sure to make sure everything remains crossed, I guarantee things would be fine.

Love the Pooh in the pool!!!!!!
I remember the POP bowling pin pool one time was closed for some time while they cleaned. I have never felt unsafe at Disney in any way! We stayed at a resort in Myrtle Beach and myself and my 2 sons contracted Mersa staph infection from the water splash/kiddie pool area.:'(

I'm just looking for research, maybe on the Disney site regarding the safety.

It has nothing to do with Disney - but public health standards of operating public pools. Standards that are out there as baselines by the CDC and implemented as health regulations all over the country.

People being scared of public pools is just germophobia. It's far cleaner than swimming in the ocean, a lake, or any fresh body of water.

So if someone was to actually poo in the water, the chlorine would actually kill the feacal matter ?

If there is a bowel movement in the pool - they have to clean the pool. They remove the material, and must wait for the pool to go through the required amount of filtration time and they usually adjust the chemicals as well.

You're asking paranoia questions rather than understanding this is all regulated by the health department for your safety.

I own a pool store and I can tell you disney pools are safer than 99% of residential pools. End of conversation.

Not sure who you are, but i doubt you're an authority on Disney pools, so can't say how you can say for sure what safe guards Disney has regarding the pools. So i'm guessing there is NO ACTUALL LITERATURE regarding the safety, chlorine levels, filtration, etc ...

I have a feeling that no matter what anybody tells you about the safety of the water parks you will not be satisfied.

Funny, you've been provided a link to contact Disney, and advised that at a minimum Disney would conform to those standards set forth by the CDC (which are available to the public). In other words, there is literature available, you just need to find it....

If you want to assume the worst, look at the strictest federal/Florida guideline. That's what Disney will have at a baseline. Which is far above what most home pools are.

Do you guys actually dunk into the water, in the sense you get your face wet, etc ?
Personal story alert....
Swim team member for 7 years as a diver in many public/college pools + life guarding at public/college pools and a Six Flags where I had to make 20+ saves (I'd say the Six Flags is comparable to the Disney water parks, just smaller)...so yes, I've gotten my face wet more than a few times and as far as I know I don't have any diseases.

I think this sums it up nicely.

OP, if you care that much just contact Disney or skip the water parks altogether.

Thanks, i've read those pages, quite helpfull.

Few questions ...

Is there a dye in the water if someone urinates? There are public pools that employ this system.

If feacal matter or someone elses urination was to 'contaminate' you, what would be the worst case scenario to your health?

There is no dye in the water. There are enough chemicals in the water to immediately disinfect any urine that may be left by another guest.

Nothing would happen to you, as your body is already more "contaminated" by germs than the few germs a little urine may be carrying.
