HWS getting rid of ALL the shows?

Gotta love a rumor thread that is based on either trolling or humor that gets taken for real...I can assure you that as someone intimately familiar with Disney Live Shows, that NONE of the shows are closing. In fact, there are some new shows being added. LMA is not only not going anywhere, it was just funded for major increase in show vehicle development...The Prince and the Frog is far into development and near ready for implementation by the same team that did Finding Nemo the Musical...as much as some people here like to trash DHS and its shows, the fact is that Live Shows is what makes mega-bucks for the park...

By the way, Moderators, this might be a good thread to lock

I am skeptical, yet... this is believable.

If (big if) Cars Land or some version of it would fit in the BLT and backstage area, then this would make sense. TDO could add a PatF show to the Premiere in the near future to add capacity. BatB gets replaced by Tangled and VOLTM gets replaced by something (P&F?) at some point, maybe one at a time. And the BLT gets shut down to build Cars (+/- Monsters Inc in SS1). That would be a reasonable and organized plan, especially if it also involved some Star Wars content being added (permanent Jedi Academy or Mos Eisley cantina). We'll see.

I think the cast member was misinformed. I don't see Muppet vision 3-d leaving.

American Idol Experience shouldn't be leaving yet. While the American Idol ratings are declining, they are not bad enough to get cancelled before 2 to 3 more years. I heard rumors about BATB and Voyage of the Mermaid getting replaced, but they were by Drew81 late last year.

Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular gone for Star Wars Land was linked by Genie of the lamp earlier this month. The thing is has been different things on speculation for Star Wars land including a Mini Star Wars land that involves where the Parade building is.

I know WDW1974 mentioned in Late Feb. 2013 that International Disney Parks will be getting Star War Lands before WDW. That means unless something changed, I wouldn't trust any Star Wars rumors outside WDW1974 at this point.

I thank all of you who answered in a decent manner, while some of you are just flat out rude. Aside from that, thank you guys for clearing this up for me :) Most of these things I can see being refurbished,if not replaced entirely. I hope Indy and RnRC hang around for quite a while. You're right, I shouldn't take a cast member's word for all it's worth, I guess I just figured I'd ask you guys for some insight :)

Carsland is going BEHIND LMA -- employees in those buildings back there have already been notified that their offices will be moving. The Tram Tour is being removed. LOTS of land back there.

By the way - I am not sure people realize how small Carsland actually is when it comes to physical space requirements.
This is the most confirmation on the subject I've heard yet! Thanks for this! I'll miss Catastrophe Canyon...

I've been here for ten years and just learned to make use of the ignore button. I'd like to say that you get used to it, but people are more rude today than they've ever been!

Agreed. I've been a longtime reader of these posts and Skellitterixx makes sense. Does anyone know when Carsland would start construction? When were the people with offices behind LMA told they are being relocated? If assuming is Carsland is a go, it would tie in with Pixar Place so PP would include CL?

That would be nice to see the backside of PP (closest to the Tours entrance) be rebuilt much further down so PP is actually a "land" with 1-2 more pads left after the project. To have a large Pixar in the North West corner and a "Lucas Land" in the South East would rock. So much more to do while the freshen up the rest of that moldy oldy.

There is no confirmation yet on when Carsland starts construction. The fact is at this point, I don't see Disney announcing it before D23 expo in August.

...and it's headed right for the gift shops, pin trading posts, and DVC booths that are going to replace all those shows!

:D
Getting rid of most of the shows and there is nothing left to suck in people for very long in a given day. It would have the same effect as just shutting the park down.

If they closed the shows, my recommendation would be to take the handful of remaining attractions, move them elsewhere and close the park down. Take Star Tours to MK's Tomorrowland and add a restaurant themed to Chalmun's Cantina. Retheme Rock 'n Rollercoaster to something more futuristic and put it in Epcot's Future World. The Imagination Pavilion can be scrapped entirely, and changed to a "Hollywoodland Pavilion" celebrating the use of science and technological innovation in film, with The Great Movie Ride (updated), Magic of Disney Animation, and Tower of Terror (with an optional walk-through exhibit at the end explaining the ride technology and special effects). They could transplant the Sci-Fi Drive in Theater there as well. The Brown Derby or 50's PrimeTime could be recreated in or around the American Pavilion. Toy Story Midway Mania could be placed in the Animal Kingdom, as it fits the midway theme of Dinoland, U.S.A., and the Animal Kingdom is desperately in need of more attractions.

Sadly, hourly cast members are some of the most under-informed and mis-informed sources of Disney related information you're going to find. Especially CPs. Disney management will usually not tell them anything important, leaving cast members to just speculate among themselves and creating a vicious rumor mill. Some will literally just make stuff out of sheer boredom to enjoy how guests react. Don't take a CM's word for future plans any more seriously than you would a bus driver's.
Yep. Disney doesn't really tell it's frontline Cast Members much of anything that they wouldn't tell the public already.

welcome to a Disney forum... unfortunately they aren't always the happiest place on earth - too many egos and know-it-alls

I don't think people understand how DHS works -- while they have added rides over the years to accommodate demand, its not about the rides, its about the shows. It brings in families who pay lots of money based primarily on the shows. People who run from ride to ride are not WDW's target market for DHS -- which is families who come to the park to experience movie-themed activities and go to live shows -- the SHOWS is what brings in business, not the handful of rides which augment it. In fact, the rides LOSE money since they require a lot of maintenance and upkeep and are way more expensive to build than live actors in live shows. The shows are even timed in such a way that you can't see them all back to back, you have to stay in the park and spend time waiting in between...which means more money for restaurants and concessions. For every person who does nothing but ride TOT and RNRC, there are 50 others who don't even venture further than the BATB theater...
WDW long ago conceeded that they have no interest in creating another Universal Studios and that show elements are primary to the park, not rides.
Nobody ever complains about more thrill rides at DHS.

For every person excited about a Monsters Inc Coaster, there is another that says "why not build 2-3 family rides instead?"

The fact that TSMM is a 2 hour wait any given time any given day shows that guests are hunting rabidly for rides at the park.

I remember when I visited the park in 2001 and the BLT and GMR had wait times of over an hour; now you can basically walk right on. On my last trip I saw BLT trams with honestly 15 people in the entire tram and rode GMR had a GMR car to ourselves. Those rides don't draw guests in anymore so . The park does need a couple more rides to disburse the crowds and will then help wait times on TSMM and R&R.

I don't see Indiana Jones being replaced for a Star Wars themed attraction when Star Tours is already there. Disney now owns the Indiana Jones franchise too and the IJ attraction is still pretty popular. From a cost perspective, I don't see what the point would be.
