Model paths are so close to the shore.. If the eye is able to stay over open water wouldn't that mean less weakening of the storm? I know we would all hate to see a direct hit on the shoreline, but which one is worse?

We were staying at the WL lodge during Charley. Many of the the guests from FW were told to move there. It was weird the next day venturing into the parking lot and seeing all those campers.

And let's not talk about the station robberies...credit card networks were also down, so if a station was pumping on generators it was cash only. Didn't take long for those stations to have police on site as security. And this was middle class suburbia!

Most of the gas stations located along evacuation routes in Florida can now operate their facilities even if the power goes out.

"Florida requires motor fuel (1) service stations near interstate highways or evacuation routes, (2) terminals and (3) wholesalers to have transfer switches and appropriate wiring to transfer the electrical load from a utility to an alternate generated power sources in the event of a power failure"

I try to around the season but I can't always do it that way. I work for the State so am at the whim of the state budget schedule. I have deadlines through mid-October. Then as an alumnus of Stetson University, I have homecoming November 4-6. So, I planned this trip the week prior: 10/29-11/4.

It won't, but they will evacuate nearby Fort Wilderness. We rode out Hurricane Charley at the WL (got some pretty neat video from the balcony at the height of the storm). While they won't evacuate the WL, they will tell you to stay in your rooms (a lot of large plate glass windows in lobby area that could cause some serious damage if they broke. They asked us to take the balcony furniture into the room, and they gave us a c cell flashlight (we stuck one of those Mickey Mouse stickers staff gives away on it and still have it as our "emergency Mickey flashlight").

Yeah they were trying to get something like that done in NY after Sandy, but let's just say local politics being what they are I don't see many stations having back-up power supplies!

Just called and they said they are planning to operate the parties on both Thursday and Friday nights...don't see that happening with legoland and sea world closing early thurs and staying that way until sat. They are either issuing refunds if wanted or waiting until cancellation of event and possibly offering vouchers for another night...

I recall when flying in to MCO in October 2004 after Charley hit in August, I think, and seeing nothing but downed trees and blue tarps over hundreds, if not more, roofs all around central FL. I imagine, it's the downed trees that Disney doesn't want landing on camp sites, and the campers within the sites, around Fort Wilderness.

Disney took a pretty decent hit to their trees, some siding panels on some buildings, etc., but they were starting to get back up the next day in stages. You noticed things like a lack of A/C in many rides/buildings as they they were trying to limit consumption given the drain on the local grids. It wasn't until we left for MCO at the end of our trip that you truly appreciated the severity of storm...as you indicated too numerous an amount of blue tarps covering roofs, downed trees/lights/signs, etc. Once at MCO, the gate we were in had portable A/C units/dehumidifiers snaked throughout the building trying to dry it out from apparent leaks/flooding.

I went to the UM/FSU game every year for 18 years or so. I miss those games!!
I will always despise the Gators. Always have, always will. It gives me great pleasure to see their nonexistent place in the top recently :)

Lol! I was so worried about the OSU Michigan game being the first night of our cruise..a little more relaxed about it now that we'll be at WDW instead.

I second this!! I can be without power.. Not having water is the WORST.

Well we were going to drive down on Friday but I don't see it happening now. Orlando will only be a few dozen miles from landfall if the eye skirts the coast like the models are showing.

I can't believe Disney hasn't announced the park closures yet. They must be waiting on the city of Orlando to order evacuations.

They need to be sure before making closures, and right now they can't be.
