Hurricane Matthew

Apparently you haven't read the early comical content about when Jim Cantore shows up, lol.

I don't see the reporting comical, it's very eye-opening with all the raw footage and it's meant to inform people to keep people safe.
Here's a shocker-

When a hurricane is beating down on you you're quite aware of it, trust me.

A TWC person in their rain gear almost blowing away and debris flying by isn't what is opening your eyes to keep you safe.

Not looked at this thread in a few hours and it looks to have turned into a nervous wreck!

Despite the rampant need for some to belittle Disney at every turn, if you're in a Disney resort tonight, rest assured that you're probably in one of the safest places in the area right now.

I was at ALK for Francis and Katrina and the cast members handled it excellently, kept everyone in the poop, etc. There are plans in place,at each resort for pretty much every eventuality. Just relax.

I was just about to say, can we stop overwhelming the thread with sports crap??

So everyone can talk about their trips being cancelled, but we can't talk about a football game between two major schools in Florida possibly being cancelled? Do you have any idea how much revenue that game will generate for Miami?

Sheesh...

Sheesh...

It was already talked about with the game being canceled. The resulting discussion (if we should call it that) isn't discussing the press conference in which it was mentioned.

My sister drove up last night and brought food and water that we added to what I already had in the room (we're at Pop Century). We spent the day at MK and had little to no lines for anything that we did. Once I read in the forums there was likely to be a 5pm closure we decided to leave around 2:30pm to give us time to get a hot meal at the cafeteria and head back to the rooms. We lucked out - the lines were absolutely insane right after we got there. They'd temporarily run out of the 12.99 lunch bags and were putting out more as we left. They were also still serving their regular dinner options and moving as fast as they could to accommodate the lines.

I will say that I have been surprised as to how Disney has notified guests. We received no letter under our door regarding the hurricane, though we did have a message waiting on the room phone (which I almost didn't notice because we never use it). No email alerts. And both the app and main website still had the "we are operating as normal and monitoring the situation" note up even after the announcement about the park closure at 5pm came up over the loud speaker.

Conversely, when we were in Hawaii during the 2011 tsunami, we were given a notice under the door, had notice from the hotel via email, and staff going door to door first to inform us, and then to eventually evacuate us. I have local family here, and tend to follow weather regardless (being stuck on vacation in both hurricanes and tsunamis previously will do that to you), But I had at least five conversations today with people who either had no idea there was a hurricane coming, period, or had no idea how strong it was...some were still thinking they'd get out tonight or tomorrow for their flights.

We're staying at Pop Century as well. Went to Epcot today and left around the same time as you do. There were definitely much fewer people in the park. By the time we got to the park (around 11am), the weather was gorgeous for about an hour long. We went to Soarin and the wait was 30 minutes. However, I checked up the app at around 4pm and it shows the wait for frozen was 105 minutes. When we came back to the resort, the wait was incredibly long at the food court. But it got way worse when we went there again at around 7pm. The line started all the way back to the front desk. We drove here from D.C. and brought some food&snack with us so we didn't buy anything from the food court. I feel really sorry for those people who have to wait in the incredibly long lines. And I totally agree with you about how poorly we were informed about the hurricane from Disney. I got nothing but a note from a guy 30 minutes ago asking us to check the voicemail regularly through the in-room phone by pressing the message retrieval button. They printed out what the message retrieval button looked like (a mail icon) but I found it nowhere on the phone.

Yes, In the "Walt Disney World News and Rumors" section.
Ok. So then Hurricane Andrew..Wilma..Katrina..etc are not directly related either.

Lighten up. Seriously, there is a major hurricane about to hit the state of Florida.. And you guys want to criticize a momentary diversion.

The criticism was probably more posts than the actual football convo.

I think a few of us have been watching and worrying all day about ourselves or loved ones. Slight deviation from the storm was a nice momentary mental break occasionally.
True. In a way, this thread is sorta like our very own "hurricane party" shelter for those keeping an eye on current news / updates.

I'm even offering complimentary PBJ sandwiches for $15 at the refreshment bar if anyone is in need of nourishment.

Stay safe!

I hope this doesn't become a huge "Disney don't inform us of a nation wide expected storm" scenario.

My apologies if asked a million times, but what is everyone's guess on whether the parks open Saturday? We are scheduled to fly into Orlando late Saturday afternoon.
