Hurricane Irma

Wind force speeds have gone down from being sustained hurricane force winds of 90-100+

To what you see above. Not perfect, not ideal, but far less dangerous than a day ago. I understand the worry of me saying things are looking better with being synonymous with everything is fine. But that was not my intent. I just mean central florida's overall outlook seems to be improving slightly.

So apparently residents of Miami are crying foul saying they could have stayed home
I understand the frustration but they were ordered to evacuate based on the information given to them at the time. Things and the situation changes but thankfully the damage that could be done to miami looks much less doomsday and much more liveable.

Where are people complaining?

I don't know where you are getting your information. This hurricane is over 200 miles wide. Orlando is going to get hammered just like Tampa and since it will be on the east side of the eye it's going to get hit harder as it moves north.

I am a florida resident been here my whole life and am fully aware of where to get information for storms and how cones and tropical and hurricane force wind areas work. I am not saying this thing is missing central florida especially not given it's size. I am going to say that where as we were predicted to see it move through the center of the state like a bowling ball with the eye and it's center force hurricane level winds affecting almost everything that is no longer the case and yes winds extend far and wide. But with the current trajectory we are seeing less catastrophic winds for the central florida area and more inline with a very high tropical storm which is a much more favorable situation. As for Tampa my friends are out there and I am beyond scared because what we are going to see here is NOTHING compared to what they are going to go through rest assured the damage and intensity are NOT the same.

A lot of people on twitter are essentially upset that they evacuated Miami when the current trajectory seems to keep miami relatively much safer than before. It's silly and I don't understand it but it is happening!

I'm taking it they haven't watched any reporting, videos, or radar. I'm glad I haven't read anything like that, and I've been following hashtags for the past 2 hours.lol

The peninsula is narrow.. the eye passing in Miami would be worse, but passing in the Southwest doesn't mean that SoFla is in the clear.. and hasn't been for several hours now.

This is why the forecasters and weathermen keep saying stuff like "Don't focus on the skinny black line" and "Hazards can occur well outside the cone of uncertainty."

honestly...this thing keeps moving in different directions when they say it will go one direction so I wouldn't be breathing a sigh of relief.

I think it was probably a joke post. 317,000 without power now. Have you see what's hitting them? Plus, the storm hasn't even passed. I really thing whoever said that was probably joking, or just a complete oblivious moron.lol.

Id still be ****ed. I paid the $$ to go on the trip looking forward to the trip. If I just wanted my money back I would have never booked.

There's many different views on this scenario. In the end, we can't control the weather. It's peak hurricane season, so if you don't understand the risks of booking a vacation during this time of year, then that's no one's fault but your own. Yes, we all book far in advance, and we all want to have our vacations in full. There is no "win" here for anyone that was coming, or is even there. Travel insurance does help recover some of what is lost. If all you're concerned about is the fact that the park may not be open due to "some wind and rain" then you fail to see Disney as a company looking out for their employees and such who are dealing with effects of this system. You may be a visitor (or you could be local), but these people that work there, live there. The parks will be open when management deems it safe enough to reopen. Whether their response pleases you or es you off, is of no concern to them.

ETA: This was discussed further back in the thread, as you could imagine when they were first talking of closing the parks.

You are crazy. That's like saying i can't get into Chicago on new years because of a blizzard and the airport is shut down. When you travel to Florida between September and October you know this is hurricane season. The same applies for cruises. They are cheaper during this period because its hurricane season.

While vacations are ruined that is the risk you take.
