Hurricane Irma

I think a major catastrophic event is a valid excuse for being late.

I used to be a manager and an act of god coupled with a flight cancellation is a valid excuse but if you want to be paid you must use accumulated time off for it.

Exactly. I was stranded in Texas but did not have enough accumulated time. So it was excused but i had to make up the time. But im sure it varies from job to job.

I would be worried about the employer who threatened to fire someone....

Thanks to Irma, tomorrow will be 13 degrees cooler than today - low 70s. I take that instead of Irma.

@andysol If possible can you get some pictures of the Monorails stored inside and the storm doors?

That would be fantastic and greatly appreciated!!
Absolutely and way ahead of ya ;) Supposedly- they don't go nosetip to nosetip anymore- I asked- but I'll get a pic with the storm doors down and whatever monorails are in there.

I only have my iPhone so I'll do the best I can.

Without a doubt- the place to ride out a storm (in particular with kids) is at Disney world.

The staff at the contemporary has been incredible. Several high end managers came and met me and my family during dinner at the wave tonight- General manager of resort, met the food services manager, wave manager, etc.
Staff has been more than willing- almost begging to help. And they're everywhere. Almost Every time we express our thanks to them for serving us during this time they tell us they'd rather be here anyway.

Arcade games are set to free play. I might have played in them for a couple hours. My kids were in there somewhere (I think)- don't tell my wife.

Wave was regular dinner tonight and expected regular dinner tomorrow- 30% DVC and AP still apply. Buffet tomorrow for lunch- 10% DVC and 20% AP apply.

Activities and characters over the next two days

Move room with popcorn and water

Just overall a really well put together experience. Well done Disney.

Service like this is why the CR is my favorite and our go to resort on property. I've never had a bad service experience there.

Keeping everyone down there in my thoughts! Most people I know got out but some have stayed behind for their various jobs. Makes me think of those CM's working at the resorts the same way providing for guests comfort and safety!

Good luck to all!

On a side note, (not that this is that important...) are there any pictures of the storm prep at the parks besides those couple from DHS?

Just reality these days, so many unemployed managers feel anyone can be replaced at the drop of a hat with someone who will work for less, And they are correct.

The labor world has changed and not for the better, The only place workers still get a fair shake in the US is in Government jobs

I wonder if that varies by state? I guess the best thing is to check with your insurance company.
During a previous storm in Illinois I was told that if my neighbor's healthy tree damages my property due to an act of nature, my insurance company is responsible for my damage. If the neighbor's tree is dead or diseased to the point of being a possible danger and damages my property due to an act of nature, their insurance company or the neighbors themselves are liable.

Here is the posted bulletin for all Disney resorts.

And specifically for Coronado Springs, a moderate resort.

Contemporary is different too

Was told wave would be buffet on the 9th and that both wave and cali grill would be open during the evenings with full menus. Additionally, Quick service location is going to be running.

Essentially, business as usual here.
Will update as it changes. I will also add that when they extended my stay they discounted the rate to $190ish per night. Again- zero complaints. I'd choose the contemporary for any future hurricane.
Between the management and the building itself, I don't know if it can be topped.

I guess I jinxed it. Was notified around 8 o'clock that the flight was cancelled. They weren't able to find a flight with 3 seats until Saturday. I see some people are getting booked on Wednesday for Tuesday cancellations which is annoying, but maybe going later in the week is a safer bet.

I got a text a few hours after our AA flight was cancelled and it had said that they rebooked us for Thursday night at 8:35! And we can't cancel it, for some reason. But we already have the new flight booked, so I believe we'll get a full refund on that first missed flight after our trip.

Good luck!
