Hurricane Ian expected to impact Florida (updates and related discussions)

So landfall keeps being delayed while the track hasn’t changed. Also now looking to not make the turn NE and instead slam into GA. The models seem to be still quite different and still changing. If you notice, the area of the cone hasn’t really changed in 24 hours, just pushed more west. Ian appears to be vexing forecasters. The current path is close to the last Euro run but a day later then that model. GFS is back to hitting the panhandle. It will be interesting to see what happens with runs today.

The current movement is west-southwest according to the NHC. You could be right if it doesn't turn north soon.

I'd say, the whole Gulf coast should be watching this. It can really end up anywhere right now.

I believe the Euro model stated that a Category 3 was predicted to making landfall around the Tampa Clearwater area then headed straight for Orlando and Central FL mid week. The cone of uncertainty pretty much is wider than the state of FL , though.

And it’s very much in disagreement with every other model which is pushing big bend/panhandle area. Which is not typical. The storms path remains murky, it will hit the Florida Gulf Coast most likely but it could still be anywhere from Ft Myers to Pensacola.

Where ever it hits will feel the brunt of it. My friends who live a few miles from WDW are already doing hurricane prep - boarding up home windows with plywood, filling up gas tanks of their cars, buying canned food, water , going to ATM , buying generator. Anyone who has well water will regret it. When the power goes out so does the water output in the home.

This is worth noting from NOAA's plan of the day

Date should hopefully start to get tighter later today,, when the NOAA 49 heads out that the data from special radiosonde releases will help resolve the steering flow around Ian and the deep-layer trough that is forecast to be over the eastern portion of the U.S. next week.

I’m supposed to be flying in on Wednesday and staying until Monday I don’t know what I should do… If I cancel now I’ll only lose 200… But I also have tickets for the Halloween party on Thursday… This sucks

It appears to be tracking westward so WDW looks to be in better shape. Can’t tell you what to do though. Sorry.

It looks like we should have a better idea of the storm's direction tomorrow morning. It looks like if it hasn't turned north much by then, it might be even more to the west. There's no good spot for this beast to hit, as it will negatively impact anyone in its path.
