I get that. That's why counties have opened shelters. And each county has zones based on flooding, wind damage, etc.

However, the window to safely evacuate is rapidly closing.
Tampa Bay county admin day advise use shelter as a last resort. Advised they are not comfortable or pleasant . Not surprising some get out of Dodge for a better situation like running water , hot food and , power and AC.

Slowing down now to 10mph, still due north per NHC.

Hurricane Floyd 1999 they called for a major evacuation of the Carolina coast. Traffic on I-26 came to a stand still for 9 hours and people died and ran out of gas in the mess. Since then they now reverse the east bound lane and getting out is so much easier and safer. It took deaths for the State to get their act together.

It took people being stuck on the Turnpike and I-75 during the 2004 season for Florida to do the same.

Does anyone know how they protect the animals at AK? or quite frankly at any zoo in it's path? I worry about flash flooding.

Friendly tip - at this point, so close to landfall, watching the cone/track is basically useless. Far better to check the hourly updates from the NHC because direction and strength are going to be critical on impacts.

But for those curious/unaware, the cone/track is normally updated every six hours, so the next one will be at 5pm EDT. I think once it's close to landfall, they may update it every three. But if you see "intermediate" on an advisory from the NHC, the cone has not changed.
