Windy huggles from me for all!
My husband and I left for Florida last Monday (the 9th) to visit his college rommate and family near Daytona Beach, and then to visit my brother and his wife in Fort Myers Beach. (Note that Fort Myers Beach is very near Punta Gorda. To make life even more interesting, they were renting a manufactured home in a waterfront retirement community there. Note the past tense.)
To make a long story short, the order came to evacuate, so we headed for a Comfort Inn right off I-4 in Lake Buena Vista, arriving two days ahead of Charley. It wasn't until we'd settled thankfully into our rooms that we found out the storm had followed us! We were very lucky - we were in a cinderblock-construction hotel with a generator, so we never lost power. Talk about a front-row seat, though - we could simultaneously watch the storm on television AND through our hotel windows! Very sobering.
I'm sure this has been posted by a lot of other people, too, but Disney was up and running at 9:30 the next morning!!! We couldn't believe it! AND - when we arrived (that's right, folks, I even got my non-Disney-loving husband to the parks!), the place was immaculate!
