How to get over the disappointment of a cancelled trip?

We've been there the first week of May, and the weather was wonderful. Not scorching hot like in July/August. Crowds were never a problem either. We've been there at all different times of the year - March, April, May, June, July, August, October, November, and December, and May is one of the better times overall. First 2 weeks of December are also great because the decorations are up, and the crowds are pretty low. Good luck!!

I'm so sorry you have to push your trip back. I agree with others that May will be a much nicer time of year to go. Also, more things will be built! That us why we are skipping this year. I know the construction will continue for awhile, but the longer we wait, the more to experience!

May does seem delightful compared to July, thank you!

Your countdown gets to be longer!!! My last trip was moved from June to August and when the week passed that I would have been in Disney world, I kept saying to myself " it would have been all over right now.. And look I'm still counting the days!" This will make your trip extra special!

I was meant to be going to WDW for 2 weeks in the upcoming July with the boyfriend, but due to expenses and times we can't go and will have to look for 2016. I literally feel awful, we are booking another holiday for a week in the canary islands which looks beautiful, but it's certainly no disney.

We have been planning this holiday for so long and it was for my 18th birthday. Not to mention the last few months have been really rough due to personal problems and this just feels like the cherry on top on the cake. A pretty lousy cake.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get over it, and stay excited for a 2016 trip? They is plus sides to it, we will be in a much better financial situation and will stay on property which is a new experience, also because I will have finished my A levels I won't have exams and will be able to go in May which is when I would of much preferred to go. It's just the thought of waiting a whole year again makes me feel sad :arghh::arghh::arghh:.

Anyone had to do this before? Any help would be much appreciated :inlove:

Bummer! What's even worse is when you have to cancel a Disney reservation for your son's 3rd birthday! My wife, 4 year old daughter, and I were all excited about this trip. But, when I had to cancel the reservations a week before going because something else came up - I was destroyed for about a week. We're going again in a few weeks and this time nothing is going to be THAT important where I'll have to cancel this trip.

I can relate to this.

In 2013, we had been planning a June trip for many months. On the very night before we were supposed to leave, my partner's 90+ year old grandmother passed away, and we had to cancel the entire trip. Luckily, we had airline insurance but none for our Disney resort. Still, they refunded the entire thing and did not even charge a penalty. It was a terrible time. Basically, Disney was replaced with a funeral.

Once the dust settled, we rebooked for September and ended up having a blast despite the hottest temperaturesI think I've experienced in my life.

Speaking of life, I guess that's the point. Life happens. And hopefully when you finally make it there, you will have as great a time as I did on my postponed trip.

That's very unfortunate, sorry for the loss in you're family. I'm glad you ended up having a fantastic trip though, sometimes thing work out for the best even in the most unfortunate events.

Think about the money you are saving and how you will have more time to improve you financial standing to the point that 2016 may be the best trip ever imagined. Sometimes things tend to be for the better. Besides, the weather this year has been nothing if not iffy, so this may all be good.

Not the same, I know, but on my way down to WDW last week as I was traveling at 75 MPH on I-95 about 10 miles from the Florida boarder, it started to rain lightly. When I turned on the Wipers, I heard a snap and watched as my wiper blade broke off and went flying out into the highway. I wasn't going to stop for it, because it wasn't any less broken, but, I did turn the air blue with a verbal tantrum cursing my luck.

At the next exit, I got off and went into a Gas Station, was able to buy a new wiper blade for $10.00, put it on and went on my way. Just as I went over the Florida boarder it started to rain like there was no tomorrow. I'm talking deluge that continued the rest of the way to WDW. All of a sudden my bad luck turned into good luck because even though I had to replace the blade, if it hadn't been for that light rain in Georgia I would have had to deal with it when there was a considerable more expense likely to be involved, plus more lost time. What seemed bad overall, became a lucky thing. Think positive!

You're not missing anything by not going in July. That is, unless you love to be packed in WDW like sardines in a can with blistering temperatures. At that time of year it's not even a vacation, it's a week long survival trial. It may not seem like it now but you're doing yourself a favor by avoiding July.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
That really sucks!

The way I'd get over it is thinking about how extremely hot and crowded it would have been in July.. Thus changing when you're going to go.. So not technically a cancelled trip.. But think of it as a changed date trip! ;)

I know, June was a nightmare especially with the constant rain!

Would just like to say a great big beautiful thank you (see what I did there?) to everyone who replied to this thread. I feel much better now and look forward to my upcoming trip and have already started spider diagrams for planning!

Also we will get to go in May and spend both our birthdays in Disney which is my dream!

Also a big thanks to @yensid67 for the helpful messages, it really means a lot that you took the time of day to discuss things and help me plan and decide certain 'surprises' haha.

Thank you all! Pixie dust to you all :inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove::inlove:

Our honeymoon was booked for April 2010 after marrying in March... We intentionally waited a few weeks before going and the day came around and we got within 10 minutes of the airport when I received a call from a friend telling me to look at the news...

So I did...

The Icelandic volcano erupted over night (remember that?!) and we were pretty much the first flight cancelled out of Manchester!
A day earlier we would of been able to spend nearly 4 weeks in WDW when chaos of weeks of flights being cancelled started!
People who got stuck weren't happy as they'd run out of cash etc but I would of maxed out the credit card and claimed it all back when home as I know plenty of people got reimbursed for extra hotel bills etc!

Anyway, we had to re book for July when we could fit it in and other than being too hot for us at times and a bit crowded we had a great time...

Think we're I'm going with this is you get to make all your arrangements in plenty of time and know exactly what's going on unlike us 3 hours away from a flight! :)
