How to get from WL to Ft. Wilderness???

I should know this.......but.....I don't.

We don't want to hit the parks on the Saturday we arrive, and thought the kids may enjoy exploring Ft. Wilderness (petting farm, horses, out door movie, etc.) that afternoon/evening.

Do the 2 resorts share a H20 launch? And if so, can we just hop on it as it's headed back to Ft. Wilderness?

Gracias!

Yep, just head out back to the boat dock and take the boat over. There is also a trail that you can walk thru the woods and enjoy the surrounding area. I wouldn't take it when it's dark though. You could walk over and take the boat back.

If it's getting outdoors and exploring you're after, the walking path is great. You can catch it from the back of WL, neat the bicycle rental building. The trail is easy to follow and very peaceful. About 15 minutes at a casual pace. We saw several deer along the trail last year.

The trail is dark at night, but not so much that it is difficult to follow, especially in the direction of the Wilderness Lodge. That being said, the boat launch is probably preferable at night.

Nah...it's too far for a gator to walk. Short legs, ya know. :p

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but last time at WDW we stayed at WL. One morning, I decided to jog a few miles, part of it along that trail, and the thought of gators flashed across my mind, the idea that, great it's 6 in the morning, my carcass probably won't be found till 9, I'm leaving my new bride a widow because I wanted to exercise...you know, so I'd live longer.

Not the most logical concern I ever had, but it did hit me.

The boat ride is nice, we did it last May. We finally end up taking the next boat to the Contemporary then the kids wanted to ride the monorail, so we rode it over to the MK and caught the boat back the WL. A nice way to send a few hours in the afternoon.

Didn't want to start a new thread to ask, but now I think I'm leaning towards a FW cabin...........just for the first night, since we're not doing the parks that day.

Sooooooo, the new question is: Do I need to call NOW and reserve a golf cart? I think it seems to be the preferred way to get around the resort, and my kids love riding in them.....riding around in one all over the resort would probably keep theri minds off the fact that we're not at the parks! :animwink:

Thanks for the info, guys! It's why I LOVE this board! :king:

From AllEars:
Carts can be rented for $50.06/day including tax at the Bike Barn (407-824-2742). Starting October 1st, 2008, perhaps earlier, cart pickup and dropoff will be at the Outpost (check-in), instead of the Bike Barn. However, the supply is limited so call ahead to reserve a cart. Fort Wilderness carts may be reserved up to one year in advance.

NOTE: There is a 10 percent discount if you rent the cart for the week: $315.35 instead of $350. Fort Wilderness no longer rents carts by the hour.

When we went from WL to FW we rented bikes and took them for a very nice ride all through FW. There is a bike/walking path. By bike it was just a few minutes so I would guess the walk would be about 10 mns.
