our next trip is the first time we have not stayed at a value hotel. Typically all we wanted was a clean place to sleep and maybe a quick dip in the pool before bed. But this time we decided to move up a notch and will be staying at the french quarter. Its also the first time with no kids (even adult kids). So we will see. we may spend a bit more time at the resort this time, I know I am kinda looking forward to some quality time in the hot tub at the end of the day. I have been to most of the deluxe resorts (as various friends have stayed at them at times I have gone down.) I admit they are nice and would love to stay at them but when at WDW I am there more for the parks then the resort. It just seems like a waste of money. Besides I could stay at an equally nice "deluxe" resort for a lot less money on an island in the Caribbean and get more out of the actual resort.

When the kids were young, time had to be taken to let them swim, nap and rest up between the morning and evening hours, especially if we planned to stay for parades and fireworks.

Now that they are grown, my wife and I find that taking a break in the early afternoon gives us the same benefit of relaxing and recharging our batteries.

It has been my experience that using a hotel just for rest is not very restful and I return home exhausted and in need of a vacation from my vacation! :p

I'm a big kick back and enjoy your surroundings traveler. Definitely me personally I spend at least 50% of my vacation hours at the resort while at WDW. This is partly due to the fact I am self employed and I actually bring a laptop and work 4-8 hours each vacation day and map my park time around work. As the grand kids have gotten a little older and usually about half way through one of our visits, they tend to put in almost as many hours doing pool time or arts and crafts activities at the resort as they do park time. Our style of vacationing at WDW probably plays a huge factor in why I spend the dollars to stay deluxe rather than value or moderate.

For the purposes of the poll I voted that we only use the room for sleeping and eating which is usually the case. When we stay at a value (which is the majority of our trips) we wake up fairly early, go straight to the parks, possibly come back for a nap midday, and then go back to the parks at night. The times we've stayed in moderate or deluxe resorts we've taken much more time to explore the resorts and hang out by the pool and take full advantage of what the resort has to offer :)

Totally depends how long we're staying and where we're staying. If we're going for a shorter trip (3 or 4 nights, max), or if we're going during a time when swimming isn't likely to happen, then we'll stay at a moderate resort, and it becomes nothing more than a transportation hub for us! If we are staying longer, then we'll upgrade to a deluxe resort, and spend more time moseying around the property. We actually made this "discovery" when we stayed at AKL for the first time, and realized that after our 8 days in teh parks, we were exhausted and still hadn't enjoyed our resort at all!
