How much of the DIS stock plummet is related to the parks? In particular, WDW..

I’m very certain that this *is a part of* why attendance is down at WDW.

Look at chik-fil-a, Dollywood, in-n-out, that’s what the traditional family market wants and they are all killing it business wise.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, it’s just plain businesses facts. Don’t alienate your biggest demographic!

Edit to add “is a part of” - I don’t think it’s the only reason. Higher prices is definitely a part of it as well.
Isn’t Florida tourism overall down more than WDW? I know a lot of my coworkers are going to Disneyland for the foreseeable future due to the political climate in Florida.

I’d bet you dimes to dollars that is not what the data says…

It’s much worse for Disney.

Politics doesn’t stop travel. Money does

In this case…the “figurehead” of that whole brew ha ha is a pathetic has been…in record time too
Yeah I just edited my post - I agree. I think it’s one of the reasons for WDW. There are certainly a decent number of families choosing not to visit because of politics but the prices are part of it too.

I just paid $9.75 for a bottle of smart water in Disneyland. But 93 degrees will open up my wallet in a hurry! Haha

I hope you were able to decline to answer any questions you objected to and could provide them with feedback on your cruise experience. We've gotten a few surveys (not from Disney) with questions about ourselves that we prefer not to answer but have no option to decline, so we just close the survey page without providing any feedback to the company that sent it.
As long as people don't voice their objection companies will continue to ask personal intrusive questions. I have no problem with asking about the cruise experience beyond that NO

The Orlando/themepark market has been down noticeable…especially with the two big players.

The rest of the state had a very busy year from their own reports. Cruise ships have also rebounded and had a great year.

So we should wonder why parks alone seem to be down?

The current understanding seems to be that the single-digit decline is driven by the fact that the Florida parks were one of the first tourist destinations to reopen, meaning that the post-pandemic tourism boom is starting to fade. Bear in mind, Disney recently reported that attendance at WDW is still higher than 2019. I think that understanding is plausible considering Disneyland attendance is still going higher and cruise ships (going bonkers) didn’t come back until much later.

I was just looking at hotel room prices at WDW and the prices are high as ever with many categories booked up many months out.

I left a comment that they should be concerned about the food quality and not the guest's pronouns. I did go through the whole survey because I was sure they were going to ask me something relevant. I had a few things to complain about.

Another thing that would concern me if I was a stockholder was their lack of merchandise. They are doing this whole 25th silver anniversary thing this Summer, but they had very little merchandise to commemorate it. They also had nothing specific to Europe. Prior to the shutdown they always have merchandise for special itinerary's and celebrations. I even have a Dooney Iceland\Norway purse. I was prepared to throw down some money in their gift shops, but I ended up buying nothing.

I know DCL isn't a huge part of their overall operation in terms of profits, but they are spending billions on two more new ships and their last one hasn't been well received. Royal is going to give them a run for their money at Port Canaveral with their new ships.

They had to heavily discount their European sailings this year and looking at the way they priced them for next year I expect the same. Their pricing always seems out of touch with reality, but they seem to clawing their way back to profitability.

They’re not booked…they’re taking blocks off line

Wdw attendance fell 6% in the last quarter by their own admission and it’s going to continue on that trend line for the foreseeable future.

You’re Kinda buying the excuses here…they have an attendance problem and I’ll even give you hints on why?

It appears to be:
1. Prices
2. Genie

We were at adult trivia one night and a group of 18-20-year-olds including my son were on a team. The 26-year-old British entertainment host apologized to the group for not asking them their pronouns before she addressed them. It was beyond awkward for all of us "old" people in the room. In my son's last couple of years in the teen club, they started asking the teens their pronouns. It seems to be a generational thing.

I'm not sure what this means for DCL going forward. It seems like the demographic on DCL keeps getting older. I feel like Gen X and the Boomers really support Disney.
I have to say your posts seem a bit pronoun-centered. Pronouns aside, what was wrong with the food and service? DCL always gets top marks for both.

I’m not sure how Disney has forgotten traditional families with traditional values.

The past couple of years my family (me, my husband, two kids with their spouses and our grandchildren-currently 4 of them) have visited WDW and didn’t experience anything that wasn’t family-oriented.

We did notice the mess that is Genie+ and the price increases, but nothing that related to traditional families or family values.
It's not completely ruined or in your face yet, but there are plenty of elements you can see it. I also wasn't just talking about WDW - That is somewhat intact.

However, there is still much drinking at EPCOT, too much liquor everywhere, questionable cast member appearance and practices, and a few others things I don't think need to be there (on either side).

I think it’s funny that on Celebrity, they have all these pride nights, and try to be all inclusive. Meanwhile on Virgin, an actually cool, hip, and modern line they don’t ever mention it. It’s just part of who the people are. They know there are gay couples on board and that’s awesome. They don’t have to try to be inclusive, they just are.

That’s how Disney used to be as well.. (and for the most part still is within the parks). Everyone is welcome! But now, they are starting to push conservatives out I think.

Disneyland has high prices and Genie too, however. Why isn’t attendance down at Disneyland?

I thought they were bringing blocks back online as they continue to fill housekeeping roles. If they were taking blocks offline due to a lack of demand, they would be lowering rates. Instead they’re even higher than when we visited earlier this year.

I'm not sure what you meant by that. I did not make up the survey Disney sent to me. As I stated the food and service was not up to par.
It just seemed a weird thing to bring up three times.

We’re going on our first cruise soon and I’ve been following several sites and reading reviews. I’ve never seen pronouns mentioned.

I don't know I'm conservative and I don't feel that way. I'll keep going to Disney and sailing on DCL if I can afford it. I would say cost is currently the biggest turn-off. Disney has always been inclusive and I'm sure always will be.

I felt like from the questions they were asking they are concerned about just what you stated. They are trying to figure out who their customer is and find a balance...maybe.

I was looking at dates post-January changes to Genie. In January, Genie+ at WDW is essentially becoming FastPass+ that you pay for.
Disneyland is a very different crowd makeup…they’re half locals and that keeps em coming back.

Wdw took Two years to reopen…but that crowd fell off at hotels going on 6 months ago…the post Covid boom is most definitely over.

Back to Anaheim…I haven’t followed the genie response there…but it’s been wretched in Orlando. But DL has maxpass to prepare them…Orlando went from the lazy “free” prebooks straight to charging $18 for mine train.

It was more of a culture shock and I’m told the feedback is pretty awful. They won’t admit it…cause they don’t have any other options and no relief with no construction anytime soon.

I was at Disneyland July 4th and 5th and it wasn't crowded at all. Genie works better there. There are not as many people buying it because like you said locals go all the time. The parks didn't get busy until around 4 p.m. when the locals started showing up for the fireworks. I was pleasantly surprised I was expecting a holiday to be packed. I'm not sure if this is normal or if it's just a slowdown. Hotel prices were also great that week.
