Where was that playground located?

The play structure was roughly between World of Disney and Ghiradelli are now (the giant Stitch would approximately be facing the playground) Sometime in the 90's the playground was replaced with the tall kaleidescope tower. That tower is now gone, and there's a small area in the pavement where you can tell it had been.

This whole discussion sounds VERY familiar... I know we've talked about this playground before... I'll have to do a thread search.

EDIT: Found it. Wasn't all that long ago, either. http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=278989
(There's also a quick pic in that thread of the group of bushes in planters that marks the former spot of the kaleidescope tower)

Who remembers playing in the sandbox outside of the Captains Tower?

OH! I tried to find pictures of the gigantic sandbox when I made this thread... Thanks for taking me back. I probably brought a few pounds of sand home with me in my shoes over the years.

Been there, played there, many years ago. There was a pottery place near there where you could watch them make things. Loved that. There was also a bakery right there. One night at closing time they were selling all the cakes for $2.00. My dad bought one. It was huge. We have a picture of him carrying the cake. We thought we had hit the jackpot b/c we could never have afforded it otherwise. Funny what things stick in our memories.
