How far out do you book?

Just wondering how far out everyone books. Whether or not you really need to book that far out doesn't make any difference. Whether you feel like you really need to book a certain distance out, or you just do it because that's when you prefer to do it, I'm just curious how far out, or how close to the trip do you prefer to book?

We're hoping to go next April, so if I can resist the tempation for another month, I plan to call next month and book it, even though it's a year out and there is probably no need to book that far out, in terms of getting an available room.

I voted for a year or more only because that's what we've done for this trip. We usually start planning that far out but don't always book. We had one where we booked in May for July. Sometimes our trips just kind of happen.

I picked 6 months because that's what we did for our next trip. Last summer's trip we booked a year out and December's trip about 10 months out. I think it depends on the type of planner you are & the deals available.

We book as soon as the school comes out with the dates for Fall break, or as soon as we confirm our dates for any other time.

I am always planning a trip, booked or not. :ROFLOL:

We book as soon as our check in date is exactly 11 months out per DVC rules. We LOVE that they changed this to the check in date in lieu of the check out date.

However, we have these trips planned well over years and years out. We have a list of people waiting their turns to come with us each year. This year is one I have been waiting for over six years for, my niece's first trip . . . WOO~HOO!!! I have promised her since birth that Auntie and Uncle would take her once she was seven. I am soooooo excited.

Before anyone gets on me for not taking her sooner, we have taken her to Disneyland a couple of times. It is much smaller and easier for the little ones at Disneyland. Not to mention closer to us. WDW is the BIG one and I wanted her to be seven first.

At times I have covered the entire spectrum. I've booked trips up to 10 months in advance, and I've booked a few recent trips about 2 weeks in advance. It's always great to be organized and plan way ahead, but sometimes it's great to be spontaneous.

We like to book anywhere from 8 months to over 1 year in advance. We booked our next family trip (for next December) 10 months in advance, but we have been planning it for over 18 months now! We feel that half the fun of a trip is in the planning and the countdown! Only 256 days to go!!!:xmas:

I voted 8 to 11 months only because we have been HIT by the economy (yes, it is true, there are people suffering because of the bad times). So if I can see my way past a deposit, I would book as inexpensive of a trip as I could and pay it off before we go. If only I had a few extra dollars right now I would book a trip for anytime next year, doesn't matter when. I need something to look forward to! :(

The last few times we have booked in October/ November, for the following September because this is how the free dining is made available for the UK.

I usually book my hotel a month or 2 in advance, but I have also booked just days prior to arrival. I do prefer to make arrangements with time to spare, so it's usually a couple of months ahead of the trip.

Planning and booking for Disney doesn't require from us a whole lot of lead time. Since I have a vacation property outside the property, we just need to book our villa about 8 months in advance. Besides... airline tickets fluctuate greatly over time, so it is hard to predict when it is exactly the right time to get travel arrangements squared away.

Since I travel alone, I can book as early as two weeks out...though it has usually been two months or thereabouts. My last trip was only two weeks in advance...but it was a trip that I was taking to nearby DC that I decided to change to Disney.
