How do you travel to Disney World?

We always fly to Orlando when we go.

I Love to fly!! Taking off is my favorite...landing makes me a little nervous.:lookaroun

It's a 20 hour Drive from where I live near Chicago (Western burbs)

It's a 2 1/2 flight.

That's a no-brainer fo me. I don't wanna spend 4 days of my vacation driving. I realize there are many great sites to see while driving, but I'm a Disney Freak and I wanna spend as much time on Disney Property as I can on my vacation.:sohappy:

I also Love airports...I'm a people watcher and walking around O'Hare airport is amazing to me. It's such a large airport with many shops.

I also think Orlando International is one of the cleanest and coolest airports I have been in. Beautiful shops...nice places to grab a cup of coffee and a bite to eat. And that Monorail that takes you to the baggage claim ...it's the first part of our magical Disney Vacation !!:)

Coming from Northen New England, we ususally always fly. I remember driving down one time and it took forever! We were helping my grandmother move to FL so we took our time and enjoyed the sites. I have even taken a train to Orlando once that was fun but it took a very long time and makes lots of stops along the way.

I've only flown 3 of my 12 wdw trips, why, because we flew down days before the TWA flight years and years ago, like six or seven years ago. So, my mother refuses to fly.

Driving straight through, our best combined time is 22 hours 47 mins.

hahaha, this brings up so many memories, this past August we blew out a tire at 3 AM on 95 in Baltimore with a new Budget rental. I was on the side of the road with trucks wizzing by my head changing a damn tire, it wasn't fun. Had to take all the luggage out of the trunk because the donut was under everything, it wasn't a good start to a WDW trip.

I have to agree with Scooter from Chicago. We're Trolls here in Michigan (meaning we live below the bridge), and it takes about 22 hours to drive to Orlando. We have driven once and it was a good trip but I'd rather spend the four days it takes to drive at WDW.

Flying: 1.5hr drive to airport
2 hr in airport
2.5hr flight
.75hr to WDW
--------
6.75 hrs - leave at 5am get to resort before noon

My kids love to fly so they get excited about the trip right off the bat. We also have annual passes so when we get to the resort we can check our luggage and go right to a park or crash at the pool and not feel like we are wasting any time.

Driving takes 10-11 hours. Flying takes three hours, including a change of planes in Atlanta. Iit costs more to fly, but to me it is a no-brainer, even after 9/11.

I will never fly to WDW again. We went in November and had a nightmare getting there on Delta. We left our home for a 3:00pm flight to Atlanta. This was the day that the gentleman left his camera case in the Atlanta airport and crashed security to get it and they closed the airport. We sat in LR for 7 hours waiting on clearance to fly to Atlanta. When we finally left, we flew to Atlanta and tried to land. We almost touched down and the pilot pulled the plane back into the air full throtle. We flew around the pattern and the pilot cam on and said that he had aborted the landing because there was an airplane on the runway. We flew around and finally landed. We then drove to the end of the runway, exited on a taxiway and parked for four hours! When we finally got to the terminal, ourc connecting flight had been delayed as well and we had 10 minutes to get two sleepy children and our carryons from Terminal C to terminal B. The train was not working so we had to run. We mad it! We made it just in time to hear the gate agent announce that the flight was cancelled and everyone was removed from the plane. We then stood in a line a mile line to be reticketed on another flight. It is now 2:00am and I am very concerned because we are leaving on a Dinsey Cruise on Sunday afternoon and it is now early Saturday morning. When we finally get to the gate agent, she says that she can get us on a flight at 8:00pm. I am doing the math, okay, I'll lose my prepaid rental car and one night of prepaid hotel but I can still get to WDW and sleep then get up Sunday morning and drive to the cape. When I am about to say okay thats fine, she says SUNDAY! That was the first flight out that they could get us on. NO HOTELS, NO RENTAL CARS! Everything in Atlanta was booke dsolid or gone. I tried renting a ryder truck but got no answer. Finally I called Greyhound. We tool a cab to the bus terminal in Downtown Atlanta at 3:30 am. This is not the place that an armed marine wants to be and we had a 7 and 5 year old. We bought the last four tickets to Orlando on the 3:45am bus and got on board to start our 12 hour bus ride to Orlando. We finally got there and took a cab to the airport to get a rental car. (by the way, this is all without luggage. Delta could not find our luggage so we are hoping to find our bags before the cruise leaves. We get to the airport and get a car then went to see if our bags had arrived. We did find all of our luggage and went to the hotel to sleep. We arrive and check in at about 5:30pm this is now 30 hours after we left our house to go to the airport (all with no sleep - you ever try sleeping on a bus). Orlando is a 16 hour drive! we could have almost driven there and back. Delta refused to pay for our unused ticket, nor would the refund our bus ticket. They dfid not even offer to pay for lodging or a meal in Atlanta. And to top it off, they even cancelled my retrun flight since we did not take our connection out of Atlanta.

We are leaving for WDW in 18 days and I am driving just like we used to do!

Oh my gosh!! I am so sorry you guys had such a horrible time! But, as per my post above, it is things like that why we will NEVER fly. NEVER. NEVER. NEVER. I would take a tire changing on the highway (what? 30 min.?) over an airport/flight nightmare any day!!!

Coming from Canada we drive, we take two extra vacation days at the beginning of the trip to allow ourselves three days to reach WDW (leave Thursday arrive Saturday). We have taken side trips on the way down before, Memphis, Nashville and on the way back, Charleston, NC, Myrtle Beach, but our favourite stop is Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg and the incredible Smokey Mountans on the way home. Gives us something to look forward to after the big WDW experience, we find it is not such a big let down. We still spend 10 fun filled days at WDW, we get to eat at all our favourite U.S. restaurants, Cracker Barrell, Steak and Shake, Denny's and we can shop, shop, shop nightly in a different state coming and going. Besides I hate flying.

I'll take the stress of an airport/flight nightmare.

On the side of the road at 3AM(with unusual traffic) anything can happen, one drunk, your dead, one tired person, your dead! And not to mention all the weirdo's out there. I'll take my chances with an airport/flight nightmare!

U.S. Air out of South Bend, Indiana...to Pittsburgh....to Orlando. Six years in a row and never a problem. Total travel time is about 3 hours. Once in Orlando, we used to use Mears, but decided to go with a limo the last two years. We get to WDW before the Mears bus leaves the airport.
