How do you travel to Disney World?

Well, I have both driven and flown there.

Flying was great from New Orleans to Orlando, as it is a direct flight on Southwest, so it takes only about an hour.

The last time I drove there, 5 of us were traveling together and we drove straight through, taking turns driving. It was tiring, because even when I wasn't driving, I really couldn't sleep.

Even living in the far reaches of Florida, we still drive. I can make it in 6.5 hours, without worrying about getting a ticket. I live much closer to the folks in New Orleans.

I checked AAA and they say it is 638 miles and takes 11 hours and 55 minutes, which I have to agree with, as far as the driving time.

We left about 4:00PM in the afternoon, and arrived at 6AM the next morning...and taking into account that we stopped for dinner, and bathroom breaks along the way...we averaged about 12 hours ( or less) of actual driving time, from New Orleans to Orlando.

you guys are lucky. it takes about 24 hours from New York. Thats if you drive straight through. Just to get out of New York is a pain in the butt. ( l ) :brick:

You have to leave at least by 4am to beat New York traffic. :hammer:

It takes about the same amount of time to drive as it does to fly when you take into acount the time you spend at the airport and travel time to and from airport. So we normally pick to drive.

We fly - we're in the northeast, and it's a 24-hour drive if the roads are empty and the weather perfect, so look for those specials from Southwest and take advantage.

I live in NY, and we always drive. When we lived in Manhattan, it took 22 hours. Now that we are upstate, it will take about 24. We hate to fly. Hate it, hate it, hate it. We are big road trippers here, LOL! We drive everywhere. We break it up into two days and stay in a hotel somewhere in SC usually. I like to be in control. In control of when we leave, when we stop, how long we stop for etc. Not possible in a plane. But, we all enjoy the trip. DH likes to drive, kids like to see the country. I did fly there once, but my ears wouldn't pop and I spent the week feeling like my head was in a fishbowl. Never again! :) :) :) :) :)

Jen....we normally fly but we drove for the first time last summer from Connecticut...we left at 12 midnight....breezed thru NY and NJ and didn't stop until we got thru DC at 5am...had breakfast in VA...after that it was smooth sailing...
..coming home our timing was the worst....and we hit DC at rush hour...so we pulled over and slept for a few hours...

Hello everyone I'm kinda new here, but I've been going to Disneyworld since I was born. This is my 25th time and I am only 17 from New York City. It's always been a drive for us :sohappy:
About 20 hrs in the conversion van...I love it.

I wish I could fly! My dad doesn't like to, so I've had to drive (my dad drives but you get the point ) I have two younger sister so you can imagine the fun we have, NOT! We stop around atlanta on the way down. We have only driven straight through twice. With my dad driving it takes about 26 hours plus the hotel time. I really shouldn't complain though, cuz we have a convertion van, with tv/vcr and recently we were able to connect the ps2.

I've flown three times and driven once. I have to say I prefer flying to driving. The 10 hour drive gets to be a bit much, and I just love getting in a plane. To me, the plane ride is one of the best parts of the trip.

Coming from New York, I choose to fly down to Disney. We usually try to get one of the first Delta flights out of the city to Orlando. We're going this May and have a 6:25AM flight ( ugh!..but it's worth it!):snore:
