How do I sell the kids on the Prime Time Cafe?

I made an ADR for the PTC because I thought it would be a fun experience. My oldest daughter, who is 9, is not so sure. I tried to explain that it will be like eating inside an episode of "The Andy Griffith Show" (which she has watched with her Papaw) but how else would you suggest I get the kids more excited to eat here?

If you refuse to eat, the cousins at PTC will lock you in the cellar with the rats as Gramma makes you wash out her britches and dentures... LOL.. J/K

It's so much fun!!! The first time I ever went to Prime Time, my son was 11, he's now 22, and actually our server picked on us adults more so than my son. It was a riot!!! We are planning to go back this October. I tried to sneak and eat my son's green beans, well I got caught, and for dessert, my son received a green bean sundae!!!! Assure the kids, its just a great time and if anyone gets picked on, it will be Mom and Dad!! Have a fabulous trip!!

This is my childrens favorite place to go! They LOVE the interaction with the CM's there, and they love the food too! In fact, I am in the process of planning our Thanksgiving trip to Disney and they have requested 50's Prime Time for Thanksgiving day!:ROFLOL:

Just try it! You will love it!:D

i'm a bad person to ask. i always hating eating there as a kid. i was a picky eater, and i hated hearing the schtick "mom's going to come make you eat your veggies.." blah blah blah. true story: a CM almost got me to toss my cookies one time when i was 13 because i was full and they were giving me grief about not cleaning my plate. i hid what was left under my mom's left over pasta, and they tried to make me eat it when they found it. it was not a good look.

I don't even involve my kids in dining plans because it's not their choice, and I also love surprising them. They are pretty flexible, though :)

The desserts are a no brainer for me... Although the food isn't amazing, the experience of dining there is what makes that place so much fun.

Order the S'mores thats all I can say.

Our 7 year old likes the place, and he's a pretty picky eater. We've eaten there twice and no problems with any of the CMs, even when we don't "clean our plates." :) We've been given grief, but nothing that has crossed the line, IMO.

we have eaten there three times now and LOVE it. The food is always good to us. If you are the type of person who doesnt get "schtick" then you may not care for it, but it can be really fun!

our first trip we were seated next to a table and "dad" kept getting onto the "mom' of that group. she kept putting her elbows on the table while she was talking. after the 3-4time of "getting" onto her, he made her do the "teapot" song.....she could not remember the words cause she was laughing so hard. then she blurted out she should know this song cause she was a kindergarten teacher! the whole section just busted up laughing and then we all helped her sing it! it was really fun!

our last trip, 2 weeks ago, we ate there and had another good time! my 18y/o nephew brought his girlfriend and her mom on this trip. we had told them about the restaurant and they were up for it. girlfriend had pretty much eaten all of her plate of food, when nephew dumped his green beans on her plate. she didnt think anything of it as he still had mashed potatoes on his and was eating when the waiter came up and saw the beans on her plate....so he sat down and picked up the fork and did the "airplane" song and fed her 2 bites of green beans......nephew laughed so much he almost choked!! lol...

all in all, it was a great time and experience and I say give it a try!

The waitstaff is more apt to pick on Mom and Dad for not making a happy plate than the kids. God forbid that Dad should put his elbows on the table.

The kids usually LOVE it when the parents get the treatment that the kids normally get at home.

We took our now teenage boys there years ago and to this day they absolutely refuse to go back. They say they don't like the schtick, that they hear it enough from me. Lol! Seriously, every time I've brought it up the oldest vehemently states he'll grab a burger and wait for us outside. They're nuts!

Have you gone thru the menu with them and shown them pictures of it? Maybe even share a couple of the stories from this thread with them.

Once there you can make yourself get scolded and they'll think it's a riot.

We've eaten there a couple of time and as the others have posted, it's a great time! Kids love the atmosphere and the fact they can watch TV and eat at the same time. I mainly, out of the 4 of us usually get picked on the most. I HATE the green beans at WDW!! I usually tell the waitress up front, your going to have to punish me because I'm not eating the green beans. The kids think this is the best, to see Mom getting fussed at. Oh, and we always laugh because DS and DH usually have on caps, but "there's no caps at the dinner table", so they pull them offf and have to sit there eating with HAT HAIR!!

It's great because you can tell lots of "back in the day stories" to your kids. As well, the CMs there pick on the adults much more than they do the kids, and the kids think it's funny.

I will say, the idea has great potential. Personally, I do not find it worth your time. You go on vacation to relax, not to get fussed at for eating the food. If your kid truly enjoys vacationing, I think that this restaurant should be skipped. Sorry PTC lovers but I had a terrible experience there 2 years ago.

I'm sorry. Guess I'm old fashioned, but I would tell your child that as soon as they are old enough to pay for their own trip, then they will eat where you take them.

Ok so I showed them pictures of it and told them they get to watch tv while they eat and I think they're a little more excited now... At first the oldest wasnt really sold on the "old school" vibe but I told her "it will be kinda like we are in one of the old TV shows Papaw likes to watch" and that made her light up a little. :)
Thanks for the feedback y'all! :)

I think they will really get a kick out of you being told to get your elbows off the table. Make it happen...be part of the show!
