I think it's more of the idea that there is nothing between the track and the ground but air molecules. At least on Big Thunder you're riding around a 'mountain'. JMO

Teacups, Scrambler, Tilt-a-Whirl. I am SO there. I am all evilly on the Teacups...I don't care what anybody else in my cup says, we are going to spin as fast as we possibly can...it's one of the few times in my life I pray for more upper body strength.
