Hoop Dee Doo Question?

Hi! I'm planning my Oct. trip and had a question or two about the Hoop Dee Doo?

What kind of food is there? Is it a buffet? I have also heard that there is unlimited sangria. Is this true?

Also, are there any characters there?

Thanks for all the help!

52 days!!!

Fried chicken and ribs. No, all you care to eat served family style at the table. Yes, beer too - for adults with photo ID. No meet/greet characters.

The biggest part about the Hoop De Doo isnt the food ( Not bad but not great) is the stage show. It is themed to the Old West with some very corny jokes thrown in. The fried chicken and ribs are served with salad, beans, corn, bread & Honey butter!! As previously mentioned it is all the beer or sangria that you can drink. This is the lkongest running show at Disney as well so obviously they are doing something right. I Am going back again in October as well. Good times!!! Belle

One thing you may want to think about. They book the tables according to when you call and make your reservation. You can make this up to two years in advance. If you are going this October, and have not made a reservation yet, they may be booked, or if not, you'll probably be in the balcony or in the back of the room unless you just hit a lucky night.

We've been multiple times, and are going again this trip. We never tire of it, even though the show doesn't change. I only mention the above because we've waited until 90 days out to book it before and we always end up in the back or upstairs. This time I booked 7 months out, so we are hoping for a good table!

Not that the back or balcony are bad, just after seeing it from these areas over and over, we really want a close table this time!!!

The food is ok. Belle is right....its the show to go for.

Im from Texas, so the ribs were like really poor quality compared to what I am used to. Remember, they are cooking for hundreds of people, so they cook early in the day and the food sits. Honestly, the side items are better than the chicken and ribs. But the show is the best of all.

Everyone's right, most of the food isn't great. For some reason though I love the butter they serve--nice honey taste to it--and the strawberry shortcake for dessert is pretty good too.

The Show is the best part!

I guess I'm a little biased since I've never eaten there, only been behind the scenes. Those actors are VERY talented. Many have been doing the show for years and know the script like the back of thier hand, actually better! It's amazing to be talking to them one minute before showtime, then on they go onstage and WOW! They don't miss a beat.

They have to memorize and think about so much. There is one section of the show in which they sing a song about the states in which people live. Each actor has to memorize a certain line in the song for a number of states.

It's fun to watch when one actor has to toss to another one because the guy said Texas and that's not the state they know.

Another part of the show I like is when the spotlight bounces off the butt of one of the actors. I know it's childish, but it's funny and also a lot more complicated than it looks. The operator of the spotlight must concentrate on the exact movement of the actor.

Also, have you ever noticed how one actor will go talk to an audience member while the other actor sings or something? The audio booth director knows the script like clockwork and is constantly adjusting the microphone leves, so that the actors can interact with the guests and no always be "Live".

Did I say I loved this show!

I'm going for the first time in October and can't wait to see it!

Our party of four made our reservation 90 days out but I don't remember any word on where our table is. Is that something I should have been told when I made the reservation? And will we have our own table or be placed with another party at a larger table?

I had been wondering whether or not to book HDD for our Dec trip, and thanks to the discussion on this thread, I did. Just got off the phone with WDW-DINE and was able to book the 7:15 show on 19 Dec. I didn't even ask my hubsand and teenage boys if they wanted to go or not.

In the past, when I asked them about other events, such as the Candlelight Processional, they always say "no" but when we happen by - they want to go in. Sheesh! So, I made a mgmt decision and I hope they enjoy HDD. We'll be staying at WL, so it'll be easy to hop on the boat to FW. Yeah - I'm excited to finally be going to HDD! :sohappy: I just hope we get a decent table (fingers crossed). Thanks to all who posted!

There are individual tables for partys of four, but there is also the possibility of being put with others at a larger table, just depending on the flow of the day I think.

Tables are assigned by the location ~48 hours prior to the show. They put people where they "fit" as the tables are a certain size and bolted to the floor - wheelchair seats on the ground levels get priority, but everyone else is stuck in like a giant game of tetris in the order they were booked.

HDD was great! I had never even heard of it before, but found out about it while reading trip reports. We booked it and thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought the chicken was pretty good... along the lines of KFC, didn't really eat the ribs, however. The sides are great, and the bread and butter are to die for!

The show is awesome and it's an overall great experience. Get your ADR/PS early. We got it in August for our January trip and we were in the second row, right in the middle. Best seats in the house IMO. Any closer would have been too close. The action was all around us.

THE SANGRIA IS AWESOME.

I've always wanted to go to Hoop-De-Doo, but since I usually go to WDW solo, I think I'd feel a bit awkward. I don't mind eating at sit-down restauarants by myself, but a family-style restaurant (like HDD or, to a degree, Biergarten) is a different beast all together. I'm usullay shy around people I don't know, and usually wait until someone else strikes up a conversation. Maybe some time in the future (next year), if someone from here happens to be down at WDW at the same time I am and wants to join me ....

That's interesting about seating. I made our PS arrangements last week and we're going at the end of the 1st week of January. I hope we do have decent seats like that, especially since we're going for our daughter's birthday. When I called, the CM asked the age of the child in the party and I said that we were doing it to celebrate her birthday. She got a bit more animated and wanted to know her name and how old she was turning, because she said for the special celebrations the CM's at the HDDR make a big deal out of it.

It'll be interesting to see what it's like. We're going with my in-laws and DD and FIL are the only ones who haven't been to it yet. It'll be fun to see their reactions.
