Rumor Hollywood insiders say there's growing tension at Disney as CEO Bob Chapek chafes at Bob Iger's 'long goodbye'

I can tell you straight up that once Super Nintendo World is open, Universal will get a visit from me for the first time since I was a kid.

Comcast shuts it down and builds their version of Avengers Campus on the East Coast? šŸ˜„
Haha, wrong park. They might be able to do something like that next door though.

Could be, I don't know. Just don't think it translates very well.

I love Nintendo games and I could not care less about Avatar. But I'd rather *visit* Pandora than Super Mario World.
I've said this in another thread, but, from a purely anecdotal standpoint, my kids and their peers are far more into video games than we were, and spend much, much more time watching YouTube clips of video games than they do consuming conventional media. Whether Nintendo IP hits that same area of the prefrontal cortex as Minecraft or Fortnite does is debatable, but I feel Disney is leaving money (and generational attachments) on the table by not aggressively pursuing this space.

Nintendo is not cool. They make the most consistently high quality video games on the market but they don't trigger the same obsession as crappier games from Ubisoft and Activision. I think Mario is much more of a nostalgia hit for Gen X and Millennials than direct appeal to current-gen kids.

That is exactly what was learned - internally - when DAK opened.

Had they known/realized that priorā€¦Iā€™m not entirely sure it would have been built.
I agree with where you're coming from. But, I'm think there's not enough capacity to do WDW as one would want to -- like we used to. Do I really want to make DHS a two-day park because I didn't get RoTR and don't want to wait in a 3 hour line? Or, 2-days at epcot trying to get GotG? Don't even get me started on MK; huge lines for PP, really?
I agree with others that say then need to "flesh out" the parks before adding another. Well, as long as that means more rides with orders more magnitude of capacity.

Nah... Just shave away at the things that get people out of the parks, those are where the real money making happens. Just look back at what you used to be able to do around the place. Golf? Outsourced and downplayed. Water sprite rentals? Gone. Fishing expeditions? Gone. In-room day care? Gone. Keep your rugrats with you and get to a park! They can't demand an overpriced plush sitting in their room.

Itā€™s not a matter of what ā€œweā€™re comfortable withā€

It never was. Itā€™s about ROI and operational cost.

You know how things could not be so bad? If people had stayed home/and or rejected the polices that sucked right up front when Bob rolled them outā€¦

ā€¦like I god damn told people on another board.

The genie never goes back in the lamp.

I donā€™t think Comcast are as flush with money as people think though are they? I donā€™t think purchasing SKY long term was the best deal and arenā€™t more and more people cutting the cable?

Well to be fairā€¦the Simpsons is the most tired thing in pop culture history.

That area is up for renewal in 2026 I Believe? I bet Comcast shuts it down and ā€œdeclinesā€ to renew.

That is PRIME real estate
Simpsons has got to be a greater draw than the old timey newspaper funnies land. If any land or island needed a retheme...

I'm going to write a letter to Chapek about that.

Comcastā€™s primary business is high speed Internet now.

And they are trying to load up on content to combat the continued cable collapse.

Highly profitable parks in Orlando look good in their portfolio

Unlike Disney who scoffs are 33% of their take

Cartoon Lagoon is a serious black hole, thematically. People don't even look around.

Which is a shame as Ripsaw Falls and Bilge Rat Barges are tons of fun. The latter makes Kali look like a bad joke, at least from a pure ride perspective.

Kali is a bad joke.

But I wonder what it would take to do somekind of a Minions/secret life of pets/sing overlay for that area?

The last time we went to Fla, that area was 2nd on my kids favorite list. They loved the two rides and asked us all kinds of questions of the comics; a lot of them, they had never heard of. IOW, the attractions are very strong but an overlay would help the area considerably. I'd miss it. But, anyone younger wouldn't give it a second thought.

It boils down pretty simply.

Most Americans will never take longer than a 7-night vacation at a time because that's how long they can be away from work. As long as Walt Disney World has "enough" to keep you busy for a week, adding beyond that will have extremely low marginal returns.
But if most Americans have ā€œbeen there done thatā€ with Disney, after visiting and the parks are overcrowded, or stale- and they choose to go elsewhere- Disney will need to figure a way to pull them back ā€œhomeā€ā€¦ (maybe?)

Yeah, I just think that'll take the form of new stuff but not necessarily more stuff. Guardians replacing Ellen, that sort of thing.
