NO !! At MGM - yes. At the Magic Kingdom - no way !! The Magic Kingdom is DISNEY all the way, and hopefully will always remain so. That has nothing to do with being old-fashioned. There are several new Disney films that have not yet been featured in the parks. Don't get me wrong - I'm a Harry Potter fan, but he is not Disney. I thought the Lord of the Rings Trilogy was outstanding. However, no matter how much I love and support those films I could not support their placement in the Magic Kingdom.

It just HAD to come back didn't it. I just wish we could leave the Harry Potter rumors alone as we're not going to see it and it just starts more stuff with new members that don't know what's going on. DIE HARRY POTTER RUMORS, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO LIVE, DIE! :fork:

I'm sad because everyone hates me for pulling up an old thread.

I'M SORRY!!

Harry Potter -- don't worry, the ride WILL NOT ever happen!

I agree with Grizz -- it SHOULDNT happen

Not sayin' it WON'T, I'm saying it SHOULDN'T. :D

I know of no evidence it's being considered by WDI (*cough* management *cough*), but you never really know these days.

Hate to dig up an old thread, but my Harry Potter thoughts:

*NO* *NO* and *NO*!!!

If they shove HP in the middle of Fantasyland it will look H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E.

Harry Potter is a thin franchise. Sure, they've sold millions in books & movies. But think that in 10 years, (by then the last book will surely be long out), it will all be a forgotten memory.

As Grizz said the "classics" like Snow White, Pooh etc have "staying power" while Potter does not. Also a "Hogwarts Castle" will look ATROCIOUS behind Fantasyland..

But one reason I think it would be good (one only) is to fill the void. But those people who pose as "officials" with the "confirmed" HP ride news...are lying. Disney hasn't purchased the franchise. It's Universal's. Disney is creative enough to make their own idea, out of their movies or own Imagineering minds.

Thanks for reading my thoughts

I don't wish to bring out this thread any longer than it should...

But what you said is just factually incorrect.

Universal DOES NOT own the Harry Potter Franchise. The literary works (which are fantastic) are owned by Scholastic. The movie rights (which are just okay) are owned byWarner Brothers. Last time I checked, Unversal and warner Brothers were separate organizations.

Secondly, calling Harry Potter a "thin" franchise is quite possible the most ludricrous thing that I have ever heard. Just because the books are contemporary, does that not give them staying power? I guess "Life of Pi" (recently written in 2001) won't stand the test of time despite all the positive reviews.

A forgotten memory? BAH! Kids will read the HP books just like that have been reading the Chronicles of Narnia and the Lord of the Rings books for many, many years. Quality does not diminish with age.

I can guarantee that the impact that the HP books have had on youth literature is not a fluke.

You say that a classic attraction like Snow White is deserving of a place in the Magic Kingdom. What about Stitch? That movie just came out a couple of years ago and we are already getting an attraction. What makes that movie able to "stand the test of time"?

Do I think HP belongs at the Magic Kingdom? No. (Not to mention that it ain't happening anyways).;)However, I think that harry potter would be a welcome additon to MGM (also not happening;)).

I edited my post to say you said SHOULDNT instead of WON'T. I really think it won't happen because it just wouldn't feel right having him at MK.

I do not agree with Stitch's Great Escape, just so you know. Please forgive me
Imagineer99 because I hate having people boiling mad at me!

I just disagree with you.

I was not rude, nor am I boiling bad.

In a discussion board, a difference of opinions is required for success.

Imagineer99, just because you want the thread dead doesn't mean it has to die. Personally I believe it's a good topic to chat about!

I never said you were rude.

Nope. No staying power at all there. Not even with M. Night making a movie of it for his next film. ;)

Noooooooo
Why won't this thread just go away?!? :brick:

HP does NOT belong in the MK, not now, not ever!

The books may be good (I don't know, I've never read them), but they're not Disney. Therefore I don't think it belongs there.

well well well

Being both a die hard Disney and Potter fan, I can't help myself but I MUST respond to this thread (while my stuffed Mickey and Hedwig sit next to my puter screen :)

For the facts:

The HP books have been published in over 200 languages, and sold over 100 million copies. There are still 3 more books to go.

The HP movies are in the TOP 5 of all time leading world box office grosses (movies 1 and 2) while movie 3 is in the top 15 of world box office gross (still playing in many countries).

Okay, I think this established WORLD WIDE POPULARITY.

U.S. opening box offices were 84 million for movie 3 in its first weekend. Movie houses were sold out with many HP parties and people dressing up for the opening weekend.

While Warner Bros owned the movie rights to books 1-4, they don't own the rights past book 4. This leaves Disney with an opportunity to buy the rights to the last 3 films.

Since WDW is a world wide destination for people of all ages from around the globe, the marriage of Disney and Potter would be a perfect pairing. Here's why IMO:

Disney is the lovable, warm and fuzzy theme park, beloved by everyone. Potter is about love, friendships, honor, destiny, bravery and standing up for what is right, (and beloved by many). They are a perfect pairing, IMO. There is NO WAY Universal could ever do Potter justice. Only Disney could. Universal doesn't have the heart of Disney and never will.

Harry Potter is just not for children. I know many adults, some not even parents, that are as hooked on Potter as children. When the last book was released (book 5), on June 21 2003, there were more adults buying books than kids! Barnes and Noble recognized how huge HP is in this country alone and there were hundreds of bookstore midnight parties when the books were released at midnight, (and not just B&N I might add).

Okay, I will quit gushing over Harry and start talking Disney.

There is a vast opportunity here for Disney. The Potter franchise comes with a built in audience. Adding a Potter attraction will, I am certain, attract many many people from all over the world, to WDW. This would be an awesome attracion, and one that I would completely trust to Disney to do it justice. The attraction could be themed in many ways from a Buckbeaks flight theme, to a Quiddich theme, to Dementors and Voldemort. My daughters and I have already given thought that Disney could build a Hogwarts hotel, with sections of the hotel called Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. This could include a quiddich swimming pool, a Diagon Alley shopping area, Honeydukes sweet shop, the Great Hall food court, etc.....

Um, while I realize after reading each post in this thread that there are quite a few of you that are not HP fans, I don't think you are the majority. Harry Potter is quite beloved by many many children and adults alike. In my own home, you can quite often find my 3 daughters and I curled up in my bed with each of us reading a different HP book. Harry Potter has already established itself as a classic, to be shared by generations yet to come. It is a phenomenom in the literary world because of its enourmous popularity. Making it a part of the Disney experience would be perfect.

As for where it should go in WDW, I really don't care as long as they JUST DO IT!

You made some good points and I would like to see a HP type ride, but I disagree that it should go anywhere. It would ruin fantaseyland and the Britain area in Epcot. Studios would be great.

Okay! I have last post! :sohappy: *gets out knife and slits the throat of this thread* :sohappy:
