Hilton Head Area Restaurants

So the wife and I just got back from a weekend at Hilton Head and overall we had a great time. I wanted to highlight some good and bad restaurants.

First off in November, everything closes super early, like 7:30 early in some cases.

Red Fish was great. Awesome food, good wine. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Black Marlin was also great. Great crab legs and brunch menu.

Scott's Fish Market was walking distance from the resort and it was kind of bad. It was overpriced and all sorts of average. There are much better places to eat all over the island.

Anyone else have any restaurants to recommend (or not)? It's nice to see Disney supporting the local area by limiting their own food choices, but I remember being thrown off the first time down there without the Disney food security as a back up!

On a somewhat related note, (and this is not something I make any dough off of by telling you), there's a website called restaurants.com that specialize in offering discounts to different restaurants throughout the country. Type in a city or state or zip code and they'll spit out nearby restaurants where you can "prepay" for a discount. Usually, 4 bucks now will get you 10 dollars off when you dine, and 10 will get you 25 (with each restaurant offering conditions, usually that the patrons must order at least 2 entrees or the food bill must be x amount of dollars for the discount to kick in, some - but far from all - prohibit usage on the weekend, etc).

But the thing is, if you sign up for their mailing list, you'll often get codes that'll get you a $25 discount for 3 or even 2 dollars! Sometimes they even throw in a bonus 10 dollar discount to a different restaurant, just because...

I just used a discount card this weekend, one we paid 2 dollars for, that got us 25 off our food bill in a restaurant on the Jersey shore. I often use their discounts at Ted's Montana Grill in NYC. And they do have discounts for restaurants in the Hilton Head area...and Orlando, for that matter Obviously, not in WDW, but if you feel like venturing off property, there are plenty of places in Orlando and Kissimmee and surrounding areas. I did see one for The Outback on Lake Buena Vista, for example. Check 'em out. www.restaurants.com

My pleasure, but just realize that most restaurants only give out a certain amount of discounts each month. So the more people you tell, the greater the chances that they'll sell out of a discount when you want one! :D

Ah-HA! I didn't know that. Luckily, most of the people I sent it to live in different areas from me.

That explains the "sold out"s that I saw on certain restaurants.

P.S. My DH is one of those "special" people you refer to in your signature. :D

My family went to HH 2 yrs ago for 3 days and I can say it is a place that we say been there done, it is not a place we put on the list of have to go back. Before we went we researched all the locations to eat and we decided that since we had a villa we just ended up cooking in the resort. For us it just seemed that locations were pricey & I did not see real good reviews online.

We had to hunt for some good restaurants in the Hilton Head area and managed pretty well. Our only real miss was Scott's. Sadly that was the one closest to the resort.

Hilton Head is definitely a resort to do absolutely nothing at. Very different from WDW and even Vero in my opinion.

Oh I so agree w/ you. actually my DH & I felt that the area was a little unfriendly. I can say that all we did was sit at the pool or we walked out on the pavilion and our girls watched the wildlife & watch others catch crabs they thought it was neat.

Now Vero, we loved!!I would go back in a min. considering they had much less to choose from as far as places to eat.

I also think that is what the DVC locations want to attempt is to have places that are diverse and not like WDW.

I gotta disagree with you on HH. As jakeman said, it's a great "do-nothing" resort. When my wife and I went, it was after a week at WDW and we used it to wind down from our killer pace at Orlando. Mostly beach, though we did a dolphin-watching tour, some mini-golf and hit the lighthouse. We bought some groceries for the room, mostly snacks, and one night we got a pizza to-go for the room. But yeah, we'd go again no problem. In fact, in the Spring, we are.

oh yeah I agree it is a do-nothing resort, but my DH is not a golfer so that was not an option, I dont know but when we were there we just found it to not be friendly ( not the CM, but other guest) I am the type of person that likes to start up a conversation w/ folks to be just friendly, maybe it made folks feel uncomforatable, but I got strange stares from folks. In WDW & in Vero we found folks willing to just chat to pass time & be friendly. That is all I was really saying about the area.

Local or other resort guests?
Not that I'm saying "You're wrong," but I can be kinda gabby as well, and I didn't have the experience you did talking to others. Now, it could be that most locals I talked to were people who, at the time, were providing a service (no, not THAT) so being nice may have been part of the job. But I just didn't notice any coldness or snobbery anywhere.

Maybe I'm just more charming. :D j/k

Giuseppi's Pizza & Pasta is one of our Favs plus its kinda walking distances from the Resort. The Hilton Head Fuddruckers is one a fun place too...we have been to many other Fuddruckers but this one is about the best!

Alexander's was nice also (restaurant you pass going to the Disney Beach)

We have been to HH 3 times now and we cannot recall a terrible meal really.

HH is actually our 'home' resort. It is a place to do nothing, and I mean that in a good way. I love just riding a rental bike on the beach every day. The bike paths are fantastic.

Agree with Fuddruckers. Check out a hole in the wall called Grumpy Grouper. Not fancy but food is good. And Longhorn was very good. The low country boil at the beach house is fun.
