High Line West Side construction

It's a great question. If I ever get a chance to ask the DTD managers who set the hours as 5 - 9 pm, I will. (Tho even with those limited hours, they apparently weren't very profitable, as all four aren't even out on the weekends.)

In my mind the food trucks are just a "cute" way to theme a food court. Instead of building a generic food court that exists in most malls it's something a little different and trendy. Maybe once the construction is done and everything is open they will be open at lunch time too. If not then it's a big waste. How many malls have a food court that's only open 5-9? Sometimes I think these guys are trying to fail.

The lack of profitability is probably directly related to the food offered. It doesn't seem too hard to me to figure out a winning menu. Maybe they need to start accepting DDP;)

Haven't they been bringing one of the food trucks over to All-Star Music each day during its food court refurb? That could account for at least one absence.

They have pulled them a few times to various locations, but as often as not, see them simply parked behind Cirque (near the Disney Merchandise Truck). These things scream "white elephant."

The problem is what they are selling not how they are selling it. Leave the fancy food in the restaurants and serve up fish and chips, tacos, pizza, burgers, perhaps something Asian. Just keep it simple. Hell even if they had one that only sold French fries with perhaps chili cheese and cheese fries as alternates that would probably sell well. Those bread cones they serve at fantasmic might be an idea as well.

Hard to sell anything when you're only open 4 hours. Occasionally.

BTW, never considered a corn dog "fancy," and they did dumb down the name of the Croque Monsieur to "ham and cheese sandwich."

The corn dogs are a notable exception but it would be nice if they actually used Real hotdogs (Vienna, Nathan's or another All Beef hotdog) instead of the mystery meat ones you can get 8 for a dollar at the local Walmart.

Do these look better in person? I've never been a fan of things like power lines and elevated tracks that obstruct views, my one exception is the trolly lines in DCA, I hated how they looked in pictures but once I saw them in person loved how much they added to the theme. Hopefully these have the same outcome because judging by the pictures it looks like the money would have been better spent on additional trees for shade.

Hard to tell right now, because it's three sections that aren't connected at this point. But in person last week, they looked OK. Not really obstructing anything -- instead, they provide something new to look at. We'll see when it's finished.

Last week, there was a food truck out on the Marketplace side during the day on Tuesday. It was the Namaste truck, and the butter chicken looked almost good enough to convince my wife and I to stop there instead of going to EoS. Almost...but I hadn't had a Holiday Turkey Sandwich in over a year. The other three trucks were parked over near Cirque.

Wednesday evening, the MK truck in the Marketplace area. Didn't make it over to the West Side to see where the others might have been.

I know they've been consistently using one of the trucks at All Star Music while they work on their cafeteria.
