Thanks guys, I can tell you that north of the railroad tracks from Pass Christian (where I live) to Biloxi, most people's losses are their homes. South of the railroad tracks, a lot of people didn't make it.

I haven't read this thread before posting, so my thoughts and prayers remain, as they have been, with my Gulf Coast Neighbors and forum members who could have been affected by the storm.

As for me, I am happy to report that my family and I are all safe. Our home is one of a very few in Pass Christian that sustained very little damage, primarily due to the fact it is on high ground. I am completely without power, water or telephone service and will be for a while.

I am checking in from my parents home in north Mississippi, where we arrived late last night to get a brief respite from the devastation. From Monday until noon yesterday, I have been helping friends and neighbors with their losses. Devastation is not an understatement. I feel fortunate that to this point, my own friends are all alive. Among the people I know, the ratio of people who lost their homes to those who still have homes is about 4 to 1.

I want to thank everyone here for their prayers and well wishes during these tough times. I won't be back on the boards for a while, only because there is too much work to do.

Hi, everybody. We came through ok. A tree fell on the house, but rolled off to only do a couple of punctures through the roof. I am a half mile from the railroad tracks and the beach. At night without power, the smell coming off the southside is like the smell of death. It is horrible. I have no job because we will have to rebuild the casino, this time on land. I am at a temporary office right now and we are going to the Hard Rock to salvage what we can. Although I will not have a job for long, I am thankful we made it through ok and still have a house. About 80 percent of my friends do not have a home because they lived on the south side of the tracks in Gulfport. My husband's company is flying us and our little girl to Las Vegas Friday to get us out of this death zone. It has been so much mental torture than anything. I cry everytime I see something destroyed and I get to see it with my own eyes instead of pictures. From pouring dirty Gulf water over a seal at Marine Life until he was rescued to a woman wondering Hwy 90 with blood all over her wanting to go get a cup of coffee from a place that is no longer there...it has been crazy. Tina! Thanks for checking in and glad you made it thru the storm. Everyone here has been so worried about all of our members who were in the path of the storm.

We FINALLY heard from my brother-in-law Friday night....late! It was the first cell phone signal he got so he called. He is working constantly (he's an EMT).

We left yesterday because my husband had to come out here for work and his company did not want me and Bailey at home by ourselves with all of the chaos in Gulfport. We had to catch the flight out of Jackson, which is two hours away, because of damage to our airport. My husband is at work and of course I am looking at Katrina damage on the internet and tv. I need to look away for a couple of days to clear my mind of it for a moment. I see so many visions of the damage when I even close my eyes at night to sleep. I just never saw anything like it. The pictures on the tv and internet do not even scratch the surface as what you see or smell in person. It is unexplainable. You know, I saw some brochures in the lobby for Disneyland. I have never been but may try to get over there in the next 9 days.

You are so right! Just because Katrina is no longer on the weather maps does not mean the storm is over. Recovery efforts will take many years. Take good care of yourselves and try to minimize the physical, financial and the mental impacts of this storm as much as possible. We're pulling for you! :wave:

I agree with Woody. My prayers are still with you all.

I remember when Isabelle came through here in 2003. I only lost four trees and had minor damage, but power was out (causing my basement sump pump to stop) for 10 days. And I was fortunate to find a friend with a generator and later a drop cord across the street just to keep my small sump pump working. Without it my basement would have completely flooded and ruined my furnace.

But even with that minor damage I felt an overwhelming sense of the storm. So I can only imagine the senses that you are feeling, with so much more broadspread damage.

It will take time, but recovery will come for most. Tangible help is continuing to come. As are my prayers.
