Here come the mermaids

Projectors for the mermaid effect were turned off when I rode yesterday. And, of course, the fog effect looked like crap.
They were working over the weekend when I was there on Sunday. I didnt mind them really. Though it seemed like most didnt notice them. I do honestly think the song and the mermaid skeleton add some nice touches even if the projections themselves are kind of hit or miss. What is wrong with the fog projection? You mean the one with Blackbeard correct?

They were working today so I finally got a chance to see the effect in person. Meh. Didn't add much to the ride IMO. The Blackbeard mist effect is still a blurry mess.

Guess I never expected that to be clear... It didnt make sense to me that you'd get a crystal clear image when it's supposed to be "eery" and a message from a pirate ghost. That's why I don't mind the shimmery blurry effect. *shrug* YMMV

But yeah most people didnt notice the projection. I thought it was ok if you noticed. If you didnt, well it doesn't ruin the ride experience. The song and the mermaid skeleton were much more effective and nice additions in my opinion.

I saw the mist projection before it became what it is today and it looked a lot better than it does now. Back then it was a pretty neat effect that was amazingly clear (back then it was Davey Jones instead of Blackbeard). I think it's become a case of just giving up getting it back to its original condition.

I would assume that since the mermaids are associated with the same film as Blackbeard that the addition of these fairly permanent effects are also cause to expect Blackbeard isn't going anywhere in favor of Davy Jones returning huh?

Personally I prefer Davy Jones as the mist effect. He was a huge character in the series, and it would make more sense to have him there as the eerie figure. I believe he should be included in the ride some way.

It would appear that at least one person on this thread seems to think so.
What would be the point of changing the boats?? They work just fine and as far as I could tell when I road it 5 times last week, none were in bad condition. I don't even understand them adding the interactive queue considering the wait time is usually pretty short but I guess it makes a bit more sense than wasting money on something that really really really is not needed.

I wanted REAL mermaids in the water...but I digress.

Depends on the mermaid. Those from Peter Pan or The Little Mermaid (of age, of course), alright. Those from Pirates 4? No thanks. Dealing with the hazards of NextGen are plenty without worrying about being pulled under the water and eaten. I only want just so much immersion.

Unless they're going to put us into little mini-Black Pearls, is there the possibility that Pirates has the same problem that "it's a small world" was said to have - the growing weight of its guests?

"We're gonna need a bigger boat"? ;)

(Oh, wait, wrong park ;) )
