Here come the mermaids

Disneyland version is, lets just say, a much better version than WDW.

Longer?

Yes.

Better?

Highly debatable.

The largest part of the length increase is in absolutely empty caverns, which are only there due to necessity - to get you into the ride building. I spent my whole life being told how far superior their version was, and when I saw it - I was like, eh? Ours is more majestic (the sets are simply larger and grander in scale), and the queue and structure around it are much more appropriate. While yes, Pirates do have a connection to New Orleans, it makes little sense to enter a large fancy mansion, then the bayou, and then suddenly into a pirate fight. I think going into caverns, then into a pirate fight, is much more appropriate.

All in all, I think they are about equal.

I hope that they won't add mermaids to the ride, but if they do, don't expect to see me on line. POTC=No Mermaids

Don't forget that load/unload are basically combined at DL (I don't remember whether you get off at the exact same place or not), so you ride back uphill on a part of track that only the empty boats take at WDW. That's also extra "ride" time.

POTC breaks down as this..

More show scenes - Yes, better
Longer - not better, just borning floating through caverns way too long. The only good thing is the extra drop

I'll take the fort of MK over the caverns and extra drop.

Disneyland's Potc is better imo because of the extra scenes. I can see how most of it is "empty" but it has a hell of a lot of extra scenes and details then MK's making ours feel like the Wikipedia version in describing the novel that is DL's Potc.

It's funny how some people will say that WDW is better because the queue sets the mood when the caverns at the beginning of the DL version do the same thing! To me, it's kinda like the opposite of how you walk by some things in the DL Mansion that you ride by in the WDW Mansion.

well there is a lot more to be said for a detailed staging outside, the building, the sets in the building... compared to... empty rock lined rooms. Seriously, the caverns in the start of DL's POTC are WAY too drawn out. It's not too hard to top emptiness. Now there are extra scenes - no doubt, and they add where the MK version does not. But anyone who points to the extra time in the caverns, or the extra time wrapping up the lift and in the queue area as reasons why it's better are really just holding onto favorites vs being objective. The original has several advantages - but the caverns aren't it IMO!

Personally, I think the rides are about the same, but the current upkeep in Anaheim puts that one ahead for me. Riding on Pirates in DL and hearing that movie score booming so clearly in the attack scene was a very special moment.

i feel the mermaids would be a nice addition, only if they arent geared towards the films.
i love the POTC ride, i really do.
but with all the movie additions, it's getting kinda sad. i miss the original version
without the latest additions.

but this is also coming from someone who thinks they should of stopped making the POTC films after the first.
just my opinion

Agreed, as much of a Florida fan as I am, the DL version with the trip through the Bayou ... the caverns, and the gun battle at the end wins it hands down. Not to mention the maintenance of DL's ... Your cheating yourself or your blind if you think otherwise.

What about the amazing treasure scenes? One of the biggest elements of pirate lore is kinda missing from ours. Overall, that is one amazing ride.
