That's true... And I guess we all have a particular ride that we dearly miss. Like the Toad, or Horizons, or Hanna-Barbera back at Universal (which is soon to be gone).

I started a thread on this once...about "disney purists" because this attitude really es me off.....the minute you change something, it's not good enough, no matter how good it is, just because walt didn't sign the papers himself, and everyone thinks they know his vision better than the people who run the company with his name on it.

If most of these same people ran the parks, they'd be bankrupt or empty (or both:lol: )

I had several photos of Channing, Dreamfinder, and Figment I found on some videos...and I just couldn't resist. Working with characters is one of the most fun things to do as a Disney fan!

But...MORE IMPORTANTLY...

I would be happy to be at WDW in 1971...but I'd be happier to see the World today - but for everyone.

For example, the new and old Enchanted Tiki Rooms. One is really for the "classics" fan, one is really for the "modern" fans. However, one really overtakes the other. Can there be an attraction that has a mix? Certainly.

Balance...balance...

I may be named a person who *only likes the old*. This isn't true. I LOVE change. But I love the change that occurs when not only the people the attraction is targeted at is happy, but those who liked the *original* ride are pleased with also.

Several elements come into play: nostalgia, music, character, quality, and spirit. Some new attractions are high on some, low on the other. When we compare characters and attractions, sometimes those who liked the old become depressed and can't admire the new one.

That's how it is with Figment.

The change IS there. I just wanted to gather a consensus and show that some people like the old more, some people like the new more - and put it in there in an entertaining fashion. I will be able to have a greater appreciation for the general public with these polls - and knowing what other elements come into play when you fancy an attraction.

"Come into play?? I'd love to!!!" (Sorry about that. Back to the subject.)

It's great to have one guy benefit. And then another. But maybe...if the world keeps going in a certain direction...natural selection comes into play??? That's the law of nature. But is it the law of Disney??

If you think about it, Disney is a force all in its own, a branch of the right brain...or should I saw the *right side* of the brain. (If you're confused, watch the opening of Cranium Command :D ). Family - togetherness - unity. When everyone is together - a piece of the pie for all no matter what the cost may be - a couple more hundred, a couple more months: it really plays a big role.

Maybe Figment's attitude was highly considered. Maybe it wasn't. It's all in the air.

I admit, there were some parts in the attraction I laughed at - Figment sneaking across the board. But I recently realized - they're not the same. How about this...cut the obnoxious and arrogant scenes, and put some more discovery in there. More delight... If a table of randomly selected Disney fans puts their heads together, not just Imagineers, and not just "new Figment likers" or "old Figment likers" - - a well-rounded character can be produced - possessing exciting and NEW abilities and attitudes, but retaining some of the classic.

This will bring everyone together; protests would probably lessen, and the Walt Disney Company will not only be a place where the FAMILY can be together, but also the PUBLIC. (Not that it totally isn't).

Granted this is an Imagineering process that would take time and money, I'd go for it. Give everyone a piece of the pie...

And magic happens.

Fievel - I'm not a purist. Just read the above message and you might get my drift...It's basically new attractions not only NEW, but MORE innovative - with a little bit for everyone. I don't want "all the attractions to stay" and "all the ones within 10 years of building to go". In fact, I really like some of the new attractions Disney's made in the recent years!!

And JII w/Figment (not like it wasn't WITHOUT Figment) likewise has it's pieces - Horizons, World of Motion, and other stuff - but the key role in this attraction, which has shifted a little to Figment, has dramatically changed. It can change, but isn't this a little bit...unFigmentive?

Thanks..."it's always fun to look back at tomorrow!!" I just thought it'd be a cute idea to throw something in... :)

Who cares?!?! It's not yours, you don't like it, tough.. go ride something else.

You didn't design it, you had no say in it, so get over it control freak.

Figment was never your character.. Maybe you got him all wrong in the first place? The original creator helped with this new ride, and so, against all your ramblings, Figment is Figment as he was intended.

It was his creation, he had full say, so for you: tough tootsies, find a new hobby besides letter writing campaignes.

Take in mind, times have changed, and Disney does continue to change with those times.....that old, childish figment that was around when we were kids has grown up a bit...maybe a teenager now. This is the way things are. If he was the way he was in 85, most would label him boring right now.....he has to continue to entertain, and 2002 has a MUCH different version of entertainment.

I don't care for the protests, because they show the very ideas that disney hated. He hated conformity, and was quick to label people as communists. He always wanted to be changing his lands with the new technology and always wanted to be on top of the pulse of america.

Don't forget this started as an advertisement for his movies. This has always been about and will continue to be about money. New, hip attractions bring in new, hip people with their money.

People threw a fit when toad was taken out, but a whole different group of people would throw a fit if pooh was taken out.

Go with it...

But don't you agree that, for you, some of the changes are better than others? For example, I never cared for Pooh. So seeing him replacing Toad hurts. Test Track is nice, but World of Motion was better. Who knows how Mission: Space is going to be? I hated 20K, so I'm happy to see they got rid of it.
Know what I mean, Fievel?

By the way, why the lack of Avatar?

I totally agreed. I have posted this somewhere. With the Pokémon and DragonBall Z-kids of today, how could something from the 80's survive? In fact, I remember even saying months ago that Stitch was Disney's very own Pokémon...

Has anyone else noticed the irony that Grizzly himself has taken on the annoying/boisterous "I'm right" attitude he claims to loathe in the "new" Figment?

1)The avatar was taken down because some people like to take personal shots at me and my fiancee which i don't ever appreciate. It will return soon.

I know exactly what you mean. I liked WoM, but I think TT is much more "fun". Depends on who you are and what you're looking for. TT brings the money in the gate, and that's what matters in the long run. People are going there to have fun. The last time I rode WoM it didn't have a line...come to think of it, Epcot was pretty empty in general. It was only after all this disasterous change came about did people start coming back. "the disney decade" as our friend Eisner called it :)

Hey, you're telling me? I have the "international point of view" on this one. Can you imagine how "appealing" EPCOT was for a bunch of 15-year-olds who didn't speak a word of English? I remember pitying the poor tour guides because they had to deal with "when can we go to a coaster?" whinings (sp?) all day long on EPCOT days. :hammer:

Please....we're allowed to drift and talk about what we want...this is a perfectly logical drift....why close the thread?

No point to that...

Close it because we don't want to discuss EXACTLY what you want to discuss and because we debate your idea?

Grizz, don't be so childish. We don't agree with you.. you should have figured as much from your first posts about the "new" Figment.

Gah, sometimes you're so infuriating!! *jumps on Grizz, punches him in the face and bites his arm*

It's just an observation I made as a Figment fan. He's not mine...but Disney presented us with his spirit...We don't own him, but possess some of his traits...he's become parts of us...and sometimes, we just feel sad when he changes too much. That's why I wanted to know if you liked the new one or the old one.
