I am looking to take my family (dw, 4yr ds, 2yr dd) next year to disney. We have been there twice in the last 18 month but stayed at value resorts. This time we are looking to go to a deluxe resort. I had stayed in the Contemperary(sp) and the Poylonesian (sp) when i was younger but that was like 15 or 20 yrs ago. Which would people recommend for small kids.

Our kids loved the Wilderness Lodge when they were younger...still do!

As with all the resorts, its very kid friendly. They love the big open lobby with the totem pole, the little bridge over the brook, the huge fireplace and rocking chairs. There is a Hidden Mickey hunt for young and old alike (get the papers at the front desk) and the Whispering Canyon Cafe is a must with little ones.

My girls enjoyed the Polynesian also, with the volcano slide in the pool (your little ones may be too young for that), crafts in the lobby (they made leis) and being able to see the fireworks from the beach...and you have the monorail, always a plus when you have small kids.

We haven't been to the Contemporary in quite some time, but now that they are older they would like to try it again. We've stayed at the Boardwalk Inn also, but since your kids are little you will probaby like to stay near the MK.

if your kids like animals and you're looking for a deluxe, consider animal kingdom. it's a beautiful resort (adults will love it too) and a great animal adventure.

I also recommend the Boardwalk resort. It has a fantastic locaton between MGM studios and Epcot with a boat ride that'll take you to either park.(or you can walk there, too)
The Boardwalk area is fun, also.
And since we are talking about pools & slides, the Boardwalk pool/slide is awesome! It resembles a Coney Island-style roller coaster.

Hello! I would have to say the Grand Floridian - I have three little girls and they love the character breakfast and dinner @ 1900 Park Fare. Also I love the location. It takes about 3 min. to get to the Magic Kingdom. They also have a great pool and water slide. My second choice would have to be the Wilderness Lodge. I've stayed there twice. Very beautiful and just a short boat ride from the MK. If you choose that resort, you must try the Whispering Canyon Cafe!! So much fun!!! It is so hard to choose from one of the Deluxe resorts because they all have so much to offer. Good Luck!

I am a big fan of the Poly so I would have to vote for it. Kids always seem to have such a great time at the volcano pool! The slide is a big hit and they have Seven Seas Lagoon right there so they can play in the sand. Plus, it's nice having O'Hana's at your front door. They can eat with Lilo and Stich and other characters. And they have plenty of games during breakfast to keep them occupied. There's also a fun arcade and the Neverland Club. I have also stayed at the Animal Kingdom and think kids would love it because of the Savannah. I can also see why kids would love the Wilderness Lodge. That is a really cool lobby and they also have a lot of fun things to take part in :sohappy:

I think you should first ask your kids what their favorite park is, and then pick one of the resorts near that park. If they're young, it seems like the Magic Kingdom is a given, but who knows, maybe it's one of the other 3, and they might like being able to walk to those parks by staying at the Boardwalk Inn or Y&B.

If it is the Magic Kingdom, I'd think Wilderness Lodge or Contemporary. Monorails rock and everything, but I think if I were a kid, being on a ferry, where you can always get to the front of the boat and see the MK slooooowly get closer has got to be as exciting as you get before getting involved with crushes. And being in the Contemporary, with monorail OR walking options, has got to be convenient.

I'd also think about getting the planning DVD, and exploring websites that show pictures of the hotels online. Let the kids help choose where they'd like to stay, unless you think they'll get in a fight over it.

 I totally agree with getting the planning video. Your kids are young, but they could maybe choose from that one. I would recommend the WL, though. Its amazing. or AK. all kids love animals. I think they would really love it there. wherever you stay, have a magical time. :sohappy:

Well, then, I'd also suggest you go to allearsnet.com and check out FAQs on the transportation for each of the resorts. It seems that some of the monorail resorts don't have easy access to the other resorts. And of course, this means that, unless you always plan to go to MK and Epcot via monorail (and never go to MGM, AK DTD or the water parks), sooner or later, you're going to deal with buses. Also, I'm not sure how much easier a stroller will be in the monorail on a crowded day than on a bus. Easier to get on and off, perhaps, but still a big obstacle as people try to to enter or exit the cab. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to stay at a monorail resort too, but when it comes to doing non-MK-related activities, it's best to make sure you know what you're getting into with transportation options.

it hear what your saying but from the experience of the last two times, the buses were not bad it was just hard to get everything on and off the bus as were the monorail were just rolled the strollers on and off. We will not be doing anything off site or non-disney related and i also have no problem taking the buses if need be just like to minimize the need. And yeah we will be prety much spending most of the time in MK and some in EPCOT but like last time we did epcot some and then walk to the rear exit and took the boat to MGM so that aleviate that issue.

AKL!!!!

Savanah view -

Things our family loved.....

1) Bunk Beds

2) Animals outside your room 24/7 (seeing a giraffe as soon as you open our eyes in the AM!)

3) Great pool with a shallow area for the little one and a waterslide for the big one.

4) Good food choices

5) Storytelling at night

6) Amazing decor

7) Great cast members (they really know their stuff!)

8) Nice gift store/market

If you can swing the $$$$, our kids (8-11) thought this place was just the greatest!

Perhaps some place with more characters would be better for your little guys, but we just LOVE the AKL!

Have Fun!

We were just at WL this summer with 2 2yo boys. It was the perfect resort for us. It was on the cheaper end of the deluxes. It is a very short distance from MK. The atmosphere is amazing and the boys especially loved the pool. We felt it was extremely kid friendly both in the resort itself and the staff. My son still talks about the beavers in the elevators and he calls it "my hotel" whenver we look at the pictures.
