Tried for Chef Mickey's for sons first birthday in November, not much left. Other options are Crystal Palace, Garden Grill & Hollywood & Vine, need help making a decision. Crystal Palace only has Pooh & Friends (no thanks) I know Graden Grill, but was wondering which characters would be at Hollywood & Vine. Says "Playhouse Disney", but specifically which ones? anybody been there recently and knows I would appreciate the info.

Try the character buffet at 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian.
It's sort of a dignified Chef Mickey's or, if you wish, a small Crystal Palace.

A one year old should like the characters such as The Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland.

Good luck.

Would only do it for breakfast though since OP said it was for their "son's" first birthday. 1900 Park Fare's Character dinner is Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine and the Step Sisters.

Garden Grill would be good one though especially since Mickey is there and they were trying for Chef Mickey's.

I would go with Garden Grill or maybe try Ohana's breakfast? I have not been to Hollywood & Vine with characters present since my kids are older and more into the classic characters but we did eat there in 2007 and did not like the food at all. It may have been a bad day but everything was way overcooked.

If you are wanting classic disney characters, try either Cape May for breakfast or my favorite Tusker House. Went with my sister's family in January, none of us were impressed with the food at Hollywood & Vine.

I believe the Playhouse Disney characters there are Goliath and JoJo, possibly some of the Little Einsteins as well. Sure someone can confirm. :)

Tusker is the best breakfast food by far and the characters are Mickey and friends just dressed safari like. It is a really good choice. The food actually taste like something and the juice they give is to DIE for... You won't wrong here.

Jo Jo and Goliath from Jo Jo's Circus (which isn't really on anymore) and Leo and June from Little Einsteins are all at Hollywood & Vine. We've had 2 nice breakfasts here. The restaurant has never been full so there is plenty of time to meet characters. My (then) 17mo old had a great time, even though he didn't know Jo Jo's Circus he knew there was a clown and lion.

We are trying Garden Grill and Cape May Cafe next week so I can let you know about them when we get back.

I'll add that Ohana has a good breakfast - characters are Lilo, Stitch & usually Mickey & Pluto too. Just another one for you to consider.

It's been a long time since I did Cape May - but I remember really loving the classic characters being there. I have two brothers who also loved it when they were younger. :)

We just got back from WDW on Sunday and did 5 character meals while there. At Chef Mickey's Mickey's the characters seemed to be a bit rushed this visit, we go there every trip and this time they spent the least amount of time at our table. But since you were looking for alternatives to Chef Mickey's I would suggest Ohana's for breakfeast, our kids loved the interaction and how much time they got to visit with the characters and Garden Grill (we didn't eat there this time but have in the past). I know you said you didn't want to do Crystal Palace but I just wanted to add that this was our whole family's favorite buffet, the food was so good! We enjoyed 1900 Park Fare the best for characters but Crystal Palace's food was exceptional.

We've done Ohana for breakfast. The food was good and the characters really did seem to spend a lot of time with us when they came around. Goofy was great (as always) and Chip & Dale played off each other very well. The conga line dance around the restaurant was a nice little change of pace too.

We found the lunch menu @ Hollywood and Vine to be quite tasty. The baked salmon and marinated chicken quarters were good; the kids had their fill from the kids buffet area: mac-n-cheese, chicken nuggets, pizza and fruit. There was a time my little girl only wanted spaghetti with some butter and the chefs were happy to make some for her. They even brought it over to our table after I told them I'd be right back to pick it up. June, Leo, Jojo and Goliath were there and the CM's lead the kids in a singing and dancing skit. If your child knows the theme song to Mickey Mouse Club House and Little Einsteins, then it'll enhance the enjoyment.

At the Garden Grove at the Swan Resort Goofy, Pluto and Chip and Dale showed up at the breakfast buffet.
I believe the characters are only there on the weekends though. However, I like the food there more than some of the above mentioned places.

We took our son when he was 15 months old this past December to Hollywood & Vine Play and Dine breakfast and for our trip next month when he'll be 2, we've got a ressie for breakfast and lunch. This was by far the best experience my son seemed to enjoy the most! Goliath, Jo Jo, Leo and June were there. They would all go up and sing and dance every so often and invite all the kids to go up with them. On the last dance before we were to leave, we let our son up to dance since we knew if we let him before that he wouldn't eat or sit back down. Literally, he stole the show! Gigi was trying to lead everyone in singing but was laughing to hard at our ds to sing. He was soooo excited. Kept going up to Jo Jo giving him big hugs, so Jo Jo took his hands and was dancing with just him. Our son was squealing and screaching in excitement sooo loud, everyone was laughing at him having such a good time! Jo Jo took him by the hand at the end of the song and brought him back to our table. Just prior to the song, we informed our server that Jo Jo hadn't came to our table. She didn't have a chance to bring Jo Jo over before the song, but was going to after. This surely made up for it! At any of the character breakfasts that we've done, the food seemed all the same to us. I think it would all depend on what type of characters and atmosphere you want to have. There were TONS of tables available, so if you did choose this restaurant, you should have plenty of space and the characters should be able to spend ample time with you. While Chef Mickey's is my favorite and we do have a few ressies there, H&V is by far our sons favorite!

Great ideas!

the haircut one is great, i mentioned it to my wife before but completely forgot til now, thanks! Tough decisions, not sure we wanted to do breakfast, but maybe its an good option, at least I know he will be awake! My only Crystal Palace experience was late at night and all was bad, maybe earlier is better, We actually had a good experience at Hollywood & Vine last visit. Definitely want classic characters though, he definitelty knows who Mickey is already(he's everywhere). Chef Mickey's is booked for dinner the day of his birthday already:mad:!!! Thanks everyone
