Height Restriction question

When they measure someone, do they give any leeway? My daughter might be off by 1/4 inch to reach the 40 inch mark and we are hoping she can still get on the rides with that particular mark.

Thanks,
Mike

Put a folded papertowel in her shoes before you go on. It will make her a little taller. :D

Some might and some might not.... and if they say no then don't push it... no matter how frusterated you may be at the time, because they are just going to call a manager and then you have NO CHANCE at all!

The height restrictions are there for a reason, not just to "ruin people's vacations"! I can't tell you how many people would get in my face and tell me how aweful I was for not letting thier kid (who was CLEARLY too short by about 4 inches) ride summit plummit or Downhill Double Dipper.... I can't imagine how stressfull it must be for parents to have to wait in line and then get told they have to take thier kid back to the bottom... the kids cry (and the parents make just as big of a fuss).... but it's for safety and MANY people's jobs are at stake if anything (god forbid) ever happend! So tippey-toes might not even cut it either, because the CM's know to look for every trick in the book!

So try if you want... you probably have a good shot of getting her on a couple... just don't be surprised when you get some by the book CM's who wont allow her on.... just prep her for it so she knows there is a chance that she might get turned away, so it isn't too upsetting for her!

Thanks for the reply. Believe me, if they say no I would not try to argue the fact. I just wanted to know what to expect. The only one of the 40 inch height restrictions I really was hoping for her to ride is Splash Mountain.

Not to beat this to death but: Do they make you push down on their hair or how does it work. I never really paid attention because this is our first trip with a child. She has curly hair, I'm not thinking of giving her a moused up doo for the trip or anything. And after all this she might be tall enough anyway. I had her stand next to a line tonight I had marked a month or two ago. She looked to be between a 1/2 and 1/4 short with bare feet. So I am hopeful the shoes will do it.

The shoes will probably help her out. Coming from a short person, it does feel bad when you can't ride a ride. I used to tell my family I didn't want to ride Thunder Mountain because I was too scared. It was mostly because I didn't want to be told I was too short! When's your next trip?

Now, I am not sure with Splash... but I am sure it's close to what we had to do....
There are these black sticks that look like upside down hockey sticks.... and I used to make the child stand under it or near it... and then if there is any room between the child and the stick I would turn them away... for me the stick would have to hit the kid's head... I got REALLY good at eyeing them too after a while, so people might not say anything and just assume she can go!
The hair might not help cause I would never let it slip by (hey, I was on the college program and having the time of my life, no way was I getting fired and sent back home to Mass cause I let a kid go down a ride he may or may not have even had fun on!!! hahahaha ... I was TOUGH!)
The shoes will help for sure! the kids I dealt with were all barefoot! and the BEST was when parents would put all the girls hair up in a high 80's ponytale and try and ARGUE that she was tall enough with her 5 inch ponytale.... hahahahaha... that's when I would step back and call the managers... there is no arguing with that!

We leave on the 30th of this month. We are staying at Dixie Landings (I can't call it Port Orleans Riverside)

If for whatever reason she can't, we are going back again next year around the same time, so by then she will be fine at least.

She is actually very tall for her age, she only turned 3 in November and is just about 40 inches. She has been on the tall side since she was born. She was almost 9 lbs and 21 1/2 inches. My wife is only 5'3" so that is a BIG baby. My wife in the end had a C-Section becuase my daughter was too big. I swear to god when the doctor first lifted her out, I was like, "That's a toddler". Full head of hair about 2 inches long already.

See you answer a post about height restrictions and you get my daughter's life story.

But thats what makes us family.

Both my girls are tall for their ages...we never had a problem with any ride in regards to height.

Hopefully she will make it on. There are rides with 44 and up to 52 inch restrictions that she won't get on for a few years I am sure.

After all this, and I probably won't be able to get her on Splash Mountain when she sees the drop. I doubt that, she is daring. But you never know.

I know what you mean. My youngest is just shy of the 44 inch mark (about 43 1/2" last year) and was unable to ride some of the coasters at PKI. It looks like a majority of rides at WDW have a 40" restriction, to which she is very happy about. I tried to talk my wife into buying some platform shoes for her so she could ride Rugrats Runaway Reptar but is was a no-go. Oh well, we (and she) are hoping she adds that last half inch over the Winter.

Is there a generic chart showing height restrictions for WDW?

A couple of years ago we were getting on Big Thunder with my daughter who was exactly 40 inches. The person measuring was on a bit of a slope and my daughter looked about 1/2 inch too short. We pointed out she was on a slope and she reluctantly let her on. The next time through I popped a pony tail on the top of my daughters head. No one squished the pony tail to measure her all day and she cleared 40 inches easily.
Have fun!

My boy was 2 years old when he first rode Splash & Big Thunder. We bought these cowboy boots that jacked his height up 5 inches and put them on him when we entered Frontierland. It helped he was a cowboy for Halloween, but you can find shoes for $2 or $3 at thriftstores that will boost height. Last year when he was 3 we found some Pooh sandals that had super thick support, so again he was able to ride Big Thunder and his favorite ride now Splash Mtn. Now that he is 4, we are working our way to Space MTN, Mission Space.. Hey your daughter can also ride 40 height rides : Test Track and Dinosaur and Kali River Rapids. My boy wants to ride that stupid carnival dino rollercoaster so bad, but it is 52 height the tallest restricition in all of WDW. Thought it was a dumb move on Disney's part to make it look so kid friendly and then have such a crazy height restriction, you can send a kid on scary Dinosaur but not this little coaster? Go figure?

That "Wild Mouse" type of coaster is scary...it feels like you are going right off the edge then you twist & spin. I think they got this one right. Other parks have similar restrictions on these types of coasters...they have a weight limit, too (because of the restraint system).

My three-year-old and four-year-old are very close and feel the need to do everything together!

So when the 4y.o. goes but the 3y.o. can't, what a scene!

I don't push the issue...

I even help the CM make the decesion..."stand up straight, don't tilt your head, look straight, and if the scalp doesn't touch...I understand."

We make it a game. I know I'm a little more privileged than others here (I'm local), but we tell the youngest we'll try next time. Bad thing is, she makes us try all the height-restrictions every time we go now!

Don't alienate the little one either! I will take her through the queue anyways just so she feels "involved" in the attraction...then I'll step out at the last minute and wait for my other half at the end.

Speaking of height restrictions....

On ToT, have they made any changes to the seating with the one bar that goes across the whole row? I am a bigger guy, around 190 and my 5'1" wife is about 100 pounds. Obviously, when we sit together on the ride, the bar isn't all that snug for her, so she just flys about as it goes up and down.

I thought I heard that they may change it to accomodate lard-a@$@ like myself with little wives? :p Can anyone elaborate?

All seatbelts now!

More "arm-flailing" room!
