Heelys at WDW

I keep seeing parents letting their young kids and tweens speed around on these heely (or any other various brand wheel-in-heel skate shoe) things while they smack into smaller kids, end up making them (or in some cases the parents) bite the pavement. Are the general public not aware that skates of any kind are not allowed in the parks or resorts? I've personally seen 3 incidents in the past month, one involving a mother holding her infant falling over a child skating by, the other 2 involving children not being aware of the ever-changing pavement and biting it on the ground (the end result being a bloody mess). If you are a parent PLEASE bring comfortable walking shoes for your child instead of these wheeled shoes, unless you don't mind being asked by a cast member to remove the wheel or for your child to change their shoes.

Ok, I just had to get that out of my system. Thanks guys.

Heely's are actually not allowed at WDW parks. They are considered roller blades, and so are not allowed for the safety of our guests.

When I'm at work I always tell the kids to stop skating. Normally in a nice way.. "Hey buddy no skating please". I have seen my managers yell at the kids to remove their wheels. Its quite funny!

I HATE those things. I know when I worked at Disney they were banned. They are banned at the park I work at in the Summer.

They sell them at the mall I work at. And kids just do laps through my store...I have a urge to trip them everytime. The other day one crashed into a display table breaking a glass bowl. They didnt even say sorry...I hate the mall.

Yet security doesn't do a thing about them... I despise those things!!!!

There is actually a thread on these very (stupid, in my opinion) shoes on a certain cast members venting website (don't know if I'm supposed to post URL's to that sort of thing or not, so I'm not going to).

Fact is, the rule is not being evenly enforced at WDW, but as was stated earlier, they are not allowed.

I was in Wal-Mart last week and actually saw a child wearing these, about 10 or 12 years old, and the 'responsible adult' (yes, in quotes...think about it) pushing a cart with one hand and the child (said child in the classic stupid looking toes up riding on my wheels pose) with the other. Amazing....

Again, my opinion, worth exactly what you paid for it. Your mileage may vary.

I like to stand in front of my store when it's not busy and watch the dumb kids fall down. They don't usually use them in the store because there's no room.

Why not? I've never seem that kind of censorship here! Maybe at the DIS - but not here.

I hate, loathe, and despise those shoes. With a fiery, burning passion. I always hope the little brats at the local mall (who are swerving in and out of the Friday evening crowd knocking into people) fall flat on their faces. :brick: Watching Heelies on Ice is fun.

Best Disney story about Heelies - this is just after they were introduced, we were walking around AK, and this family with a 10 year old boy goes by, and the kid goes into the standard toe up stance and attempts to glide along on the side walk. The incredibly uneven, imprinted, concrete side walk around the entrance to AK. Kid proceeds to trip and stagger about 5 steps, slip on his wheels, stumble some more, and then finally catch his balance and look around to see if any one saw him. I was giggling for the next hour. And then some.

I'm a horrible person. :lookaroun

Oh I hate these so much. On my recent trip to WDW last December there was a family staying at All Star Sports with us that we saw quite frequently were the son was wearing them. He would ride up and down the aisle of the bus in them on the way to AK and the bus driver stopped the bus and told him to sit down. The family pretended not to speak english (even though several of us heard them speaking english just fine at the bus stop) so the bus driver called someone to meet them at the bus stop at AK. Everyone of us on the bus stopped and told the bus driver he did a great job, especially since he almost ran over someone in a wheel chair before the bus ever showed up.

It depends upon the content (if it isn't allowed here, generally no link is allowed), intent (no sites that are selling products) no fishing for members to another site, and generally no links to other sites...but at the adm and mod discretion. In many ways, we have more censorship than other sites, depending upon the topic.

Links to member's personal, blog type sites are allowed (generally) but again, it sometimes will be blocked due to content...but a little more leeway is allowed.

I would be hesitant to allow a link to a personal website if that person hasn't approved it; ie, if you put it in your signature, it's fair game.

Although both my older kids each have a pair of Heeleys I abosulutely despise them. They are an accident waiting to happen. If I see kids at the parks when I go in June I will say something to a CM about it.

Thanks for answering.

Your reply was why I didn't post the link. I can tell you that at times some questionable content shows up, four letter words, off color comments, that sort of thing. I was pretty sure I shouldn't post the link on a site visited by as many families as this one, and now I'm glad I didn't. I'd be willing to bet there are more than a few members here that know the site I'm talking about, anyway...you know, the 'stupid' one? It really can be pretty funny...adult (at times), but funny.

BTW, the current post on Heeleys on that site is now 4 pages and counting...and there are some pretty (sadly) humorous CM stories about those darn shoes....

If I see kids at the parks when I go in June I will say something to a CM about it.

Plan on seeing one kid every 20 feet with heeleys. We have gone every other weekend to WDW for the past 2 months and they are everywhere.

On Saturday, on little girl decided it would be cool to "heeley" down the escalator coming off of TTA. She completly bit the dust too. Than, not more than 1 hour later in the Columbia House, another girl was heeley'n through the rest. with her fries and wiped out... fries and all.

The CM's usually just tell the kids "please don't skate on the ride" or something like that. I only saw one CM tell a kid to stop skating in the park, but the kid didn't listen. Nothing more was done. The security people that I have been seeing didn't really care about it either.

I will say, that they do seem to be a little more strict about the heeley's in Epcot. I haven't really seen too many heeley's there. In addition, I have seen routinly kids, along with the parents, being stopped and told to stop skating. I have even seen a security person tell a child and his parents to stop the skating.

I'm still trying to process the logistics of that.

"Well, even though this escalator is pretty slippery and moving in the same direction... I think that guardrail at the bottom isn't TOO solid."

...If the children are our future, I'm waxing nostalgia. :lookaroun

I HATE those stupid shoes/sneakers or whatever they are supposed to be without the wheels. Both of my kids have them but, I didn't buy them , grandma did! Grandma was visiting from Fla. and took the kids to the mall and to my surprise they came home wearing those idiotic things. I couldn't return them because grandma let them wear them out of the store and throughout the mall and all the way home. When my kids asked me to buy them I said "sorry guys, too expensive" then grandma comes for a visit and she can afford to buy 'em so she did!
