Heelys at WDW

I keep seeing parents letting their young kids and tweens speed around on these heely (or any other various brand wheel-in-heel skate shoe) things while they smack into smaller kids, end up making them (or in some cases the parents) bite the pavement. Are the general public not aware that skates of any kind are not allowed in the parks or resorts? I've personally seen 3 incidents in the past month, one involving a mother holding her infant falling over a child skating by, the other 2 involving children not being aware of the ever-changing pavement and biting it on the ground (the end result being a bloody mess). If you are a parent PLEASE bring comfortable walking shoes for your child instead of these wheeled shoes, unless you don't mind being asked by a cast member to remove the wheel or for your child to change their shoes.

Ok, I just had to get that out of my system. Thanks guys.
They are probably not aware of the rule (got better things to concentrate on, like remembering how to tie their shoe laces without help) and if they are, they don't care as rules don't apply to them because they are too self important to have to slum with the rest of the populace.

I wish there would be a recall on those shoes. They should all be destroyed.:fork:

Once a lawyer figures a way around the disclaimer sticker on them I'm sure they will be forced out of business by the first lawsuit.

But a least they are small fry compared to the cyclists I encounter every sodding day in town where I live.

While at the parks last April a CM specifically told a child and parents that they are "illegal to be worn in any amusement and theme park in the state of Florida". The parents reply was "this is the only pair of shoes he has with him, what else is he supposed to wear" as they walked away muttering under their breaths about the CM who was very polite as she spoke to them.

I think we should go out of our way to trip kids in heelys. If their parents get upset, we can just say that we didn't see them and the shoes are banned in the parks anyway. We'll take back the walkways one kid at a time....

Trip em? I'll clothesline these kids if they get too close to me!! When the parents ask why I did it... I'll just say I had a muscle spasm!!!!! :drevil:

As annoying as they are, I would not intentionally do something to harm a child. Let the heeleys themselves take care of it....if used frequently enough, without safety equipment, there's a more than likely chance that the user will get hurt. That doesn't mean that a child will not pass through the Heeley phase unscathed; some kids are luckier than others. ;) (Just in case someone was tempted to post a "But my kids/I have used them for years without any injuries.")

If you trip the kids, then make sure you say " Oh my gosh what the ... what the... are you OK?... Oh I am so so sorry... are you sure you are OK? Oh my gosh you gave me a scare. Sure your OK? OK OK their you go..Sorry.
Then trip the next one.

Heely's are awesome, if any adult tried them, they make you feel like a kid again. (note, as an adult, you'll need some pretty good balance to do this)

P.S, at least have a camera running when you try this, worst case scenario. America's Funniest Home Video :ROFLOL: .

My daughter wants a pair so bad. I just keep telling her, "oh, honey, they don't make them in your size yet. We'll get them when your bigger." What she doesn't know is that her feet were big enough about a year ago.

They teach coordination and balance, like riding a bike

One note though, they do point your foot inwards to use them properly. Anyone who's seen Steve Martin's "The Jerk" with the class action on the glasses remover. I see in 10 years, kids with bowlegged knee's in a class action lawsuit against Heely's.

My kids don't have them and won't have them. In our school district if your child wears them to school and is caught using them, the 'wheels' are confiscated until the end of the school year. An informational letter was mailed out to all parents/guardians so no one could come back and say "I didn't know" . Those heeleys were a nightmare when we were at WDW 12-22/ 12-30.

Most of the times the wheels can be removed from the shoe, making it more-or-less a regular shoe. I feel like a total heel (pun not intended but I like it.) asking these kids to remove their wheels and keep them in their room when they are going to go to the parks and see 2 dozen other kids using them. They are just as illegal as wearing skates in or using a skateboard in the park. I don't know why the park CM's tolerate them. Completely honestly I think most of the CM's are College Program kids that either don't care or are afraid of getting yelled at by parents. It's all very frustrating. It's honestly going to take an accident or 3 and dumb over-litigious parents to wake the management up to it and put a stop to them.
