Haunted Mansion skipping audio?

I am with the majority here, Haunted Mansion has some horrible audio problems. I have rarely ridden the attraction without the audio skipping or pausing at least once during the ride. Even when the audio does work, it seems to be lacking in quality. Maybe they need a new speaker system?

I think one of the more annoying things about the audio itself is that just before the ghost host begins talking, you can hear a "click" of static just before and just after him talking. It sounds like he's talking to you on a walkie talkie.

::KHHTT:: "Ghost Host here, 10-4, Over" ::KHHTT::

Another thing I think they should work on during the next rehab is the entire audio in the graveyard scene. I find the music and sound effects playing in the scene to be very jummbled and incomprehensible at times. It would be nice to hear the Grim Grinning Ghost theme accurately throughout the whole scene, instead of just when you move past the singing busts.

After visting Disneyland at the beginning of this month, I can't stress enough the importance of switching to digital and giving this ride a heavy sprucing up. Most if not all times I have the audio problems in some shape or form. The Singing Busts are almost always on a constant on/off state and the "Donald" is MIA. I love this attraction, but I'd spare some time for Tink to spread some pixie dust to the Mansion.

I too experienced severe audio problems on my most recent trip. I rode HM several times and found that doom buggies with working audio are in the minority. Hopefully this problem will be addressed soon. I wonder how long it would take just to fix the audio because it really detracts from the overall experience. I know HM needs TLC in other areas too but the poor audio seems to be the most urgent problem.

I know That If I had gone to the magic kingdom and THe haunted mansion was down I would be upset, but I do think that HM needs a rehab, and not just a little tweak here and there, more on the Lines of IT's a small world!
They did a total rehab on that ride they put a new Digital sound system in it, new more advanced AA's, a new facade.
HM needs a new digital sound system, New AA's! Heck have you seen the AA's in The Phantom manor or The AA's in The Haunted Mansions in Tokyo or Japan?
SOOO Much more advanced, almost life like.

If I recall, audio is transmitted to each other Omnimover by infra red, then daisychained to the adjacent `mover. I`d imagine it`s either wiring problems on the `mover and/or speakers, or the beam is broken / there is dirt on the lenses, or the lenses are misaligned.

Or did I make this up?

I Don`t remember the last time I rode the mansion at WDW and got full audio (all my 4 visits I can remember since `87 :( )

You called? :)

I also think it needs a rehab. It hasn't happened to me this year so far, but I have been on a messed up Doombuggy. Not fun.

It does need a rehab...the HM is my favorite as well and the loud static in our doom buggy during the graveyard scene was awful, if it would have lasted a long time I would have been really upset. I agree, it should be first on the list before SM and POTC as both were not as bad as the HM was.

Miri-
Thank you. It's encouraging that a ride through the HM is possible without major troubles. Based on the posts here so far, the odds are against me.
Another question along the same thread; any opinions on what advance notice is likely to be for a rehab? 1 month?

I rode it four times between July 10-20, and it skipped every time. Once we had NO audio from the beginning until the graveyard, once the Leota scene had nothing, and the other two times it just repeated lines and skipped some parts.

Definitely rehab time. It's still a great ride though. I actually noticed more little details when we had no audio. Just my opinion though.

HM needs it badly. irked me to no end when the audio jumped this past April when we went to the magic kingdom.

also agree witht he graveyard, maybe syncing up the music so it doesn't sound like: Busts-verse three, king&queen-verse 1, mummy & old man- verse 4, opera singers and knight- verse 2.

i also think that they need to remove some of the lighting effects in the graveyard. after a long extensive period, and i knew they had a rehab in between jan 03 and sept 04, i was disappointed to find that i could SEE the scrim between me and the ghosts in the graveyard.

poor show.

fix the HM and by fix i don't mean add Eddie "I did it for the money" Murphy.

new Digital audio would be great! and digital projectors for the busts as well

i've heard that due to IaSW's show building being adjacent to the HM's, their audio tracks are run off the same tape in the same machine. (the tape being physically divided in half) and sometimes if the tape slipped a little, in the background of the attraction you were on, you could faintly hear the other attraction's soundtrack.

could you imagine designing something like that nowadays?!

Not quite; although both sets of tape bins were in the DACS room in MK Computer Central (and possibly near each other), they did run off different machines. IASW ran off 4 tape machines - all in sync for that ride. The HM would need a different timing, so would use dedicated machines.

We experienced this in January. The first time we went, we lost audio, then it was jumbled when it finally came back. I kept thinking at the beginning... "There's supposed to be narration here!". One of the busts was also not working.

I made my GF go back with me another day on our trip so we could get a "good ride" in. The audio was better, but one of the busts (a different one) wasn't working. It's like they only had enough electricity to run 3 at a time

HM was doing this back in December when I was there. I couldn't hear during some parts. I don't know if anyone else feels the same way, but was it too dark in there? There were someparts where I could barely see.

Hello all... On this subject, I was at WDW june 2004, and rode the HM twice, both times the audio skipped. I do believe a shut down for maintenance is required, I just hope it wont happen in December, I´d hate to be there and miss on riding the HM, it´s one of my favorites!

Tokyo OR Japan, huh? I'm going to assume you mean Tokyo or Paris... :hammer:

Anyway, I agree, and that goes double for PotC as well. I know that it's probably getting rehabbed up the wazoo soon (to make it more like the superior, DL version), so why not do HM at the same time? A HUGE rehab.

One thing no one has mentioned yet that really bothers me is the ride system itself, which needs to be replaced with a better/newer track mechanism; digitize everything and get rid of all analog signals. This is particularly noticeable when you come around the corner for the endless hallway/dancing candleabra, and Paul Frees says the bit about "Hot and cold running CHILLS...listen!" Your doombuggy violently shifts to the left and right as you pass and turn in front of the hallway.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think this is supposed to happen. As a child I rode the mansion a lot, and I NEVER remembered that happening. I'm 22, so childhood wasn't that long ago for me. I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the cars are just supposed to turn, and due to the aging of the ride system, that turn is very stiff and rickety, causing the problem I just mentioned.

REHAB!!

This is really sad. The 50th anniversary of Disney Land with a 18 month celebration and things are falling apart around them.

If and/or when they ever *do* get around to syncing everything up in the graveyard, it would really be nice to finally hear ''Grim Grinning Ghosts'' being sung by the mummy as the DL counterpart does. I've been riding WDW's HM since way back in the early '70's and it's always mystified me why that track is missing even though the mouth animation is there and the old man's ''What's that?!" is heard in all its glory...

Brian; I believe that could be a trait of the Omnimover (the jerking when turning) - I`m just editing a Phantom Manor video, and when turned sideways to face the hall of mirrors you can see in you reflection the `movers constantly "wobbling" as they go.
