I had my fingers crossed that WDW would finally present Haunted Mansion Holiday this year. My oldest son is a big fan of Nightmare Before Christmas.

Oh well, at least the HM will be open during our stay and this gives me an excuse to go to DL next Dec (hopefully).

Does anyone know if they'll install "creep mode" during the rehab? Creep mode is used at DL that stops the constant annoying stops of the whole omnimover attration to let on wheel chair people. Creep mode simply slows the whole ride down to a snail's pace instead of stopping it completely. I hope they do this, because the stops are quite annoying, and that stupid "Playful spooks have interrupted our tour" spiel gets on my last nerve. Does anyone know if they will or will not install this?

just so you know, the rehab will include new carpet, new belts at load/unload, and a touch up on the waltzing ghosts.

much needed repairs.

thats about it.

Would that be new "old carpet"or old "new carpet"?

I don't have an answer for you, but I think that would be a great idea.

For me, according to my experience in WDW, and from what the past Cast Members of the Haunted Mansion told us during the Keys to the Kingdom tour, usually, during a refirbishment for the Haunted Mansion, they do it every few months or so. It usually lasts about 1-2 maybe 3 days, and they take the paintings down in the stretching room to put copies up, because the paintings rub and pull against the wood in the stretching room, causing them to wear and sometimes rip. These are taken down, and throughout the masion, everything is examined to see if anything is broken (tourist vandalism) and if so, they fix it. They look to see if all light projectors are working for the pepper ghosts in the ballroom, so the ghosts don't fade in and out at some points (when they're not supposed to, of course)

Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween happens in October, and they usually begin setting up in late September, so the changes they're making don't involve that. Like others said, it is the belt changes and the audio upgrade to make sure it doesn't cut out or anything, but here's something you may or may not know (depending on if you work at the park or not). When you go on the ride, the Ushers that get you into the doombuggies really need you to get into the cars fast and efficiently becauseo ne, they want the line to continue moving and two, they don't want the ride to stop. If someone stands on that moving platform for too long, a sensor underneath goes off, shutting off the ride for safety reasons. This then requires someone to come over and restart the ride. If you notice, this happens with a lot of the moving platform rides, such as Peter Pan. No matter if they do a belt change, this will not change, for safety reasons. So, if the ride shuts down like it does now, AFTER refirbishments, don't be surprised, it's just a wheelchair person, a slower moving person, or someone afraid to jump onto the doombuggies because of the moving platform.

Something else that's rumored is this: A while back, when the Haunted Mansion movie came out, a book for the Making of the Mansion and the Movie came out as well. It talked about theh istory of the mansions around the world, including the Phantom Manor. It also discussed the one in Disney World, and some of the early concept designs for the ride. With the ORIGINAL Haunted Mansion, they added the Nightmare Before Christmas aspect because it had been the same for so long. This summer, when I asked if we were getting it, they said that Disney World will never get the Haunted Mansion Holiday, but there may be a possibility of something else. If I find the book, I'd post you pictures of some of their designs, including a new breathing door, a new scene with a twirling bookcase, and a completely different entrance which is much larger and spookier.

I would like that change probably. With the new technology, it would be cool. But I would NOT want like Eddy Murphy or anything like that in the ride.

Yes, Icicle, I own that book too and the new loading area looks REALLY creepy, but not tied into the rest of the Mansion, it looks really modern, I dunno. It looks awesome (btw for those who dont own the book, theres a HUGE window looking out on to a misty graveyard-like scene) but its just not the same dark doombuggy loading area that I love. But it does look pretty bad @$$

PS because of Hurricane Katrina, I won't be going to WDW anytime soon, i was planning on going this fall, but my house got flooded and with all the craziness, I just cant go.....::sigh::.......ok, i just needed to get that off my chest, lol

Just a tidbit of information that I thought I'd pass along.

====
Please be advised that the Haunted Mansion attraction will be closed for refurbishment starting on November 6, 2005 and reopen to Guests on November 16, 2005.

Now the spirits can take 5

I'll have to say that I like this ride more the older I get. As a youngster, I was expecting something more "scary", but as an adult I can really appreciate the wonderful theming, music, and presentation in this ride. Plus, it's a nice way to get out of the sun. :animwink:

I'm sure those people who are disabled and otherwise could not ride without a complete stop are very sorry for annoying you so much.
