ok, I collect WDW guide maps. Some of my older ones from 2003 show that the Haunted Mansion has fastpass. My most recent ones, from June that I picked up at DD, show that Haunted Mansion does not have fastpass.
When & why did the get rid of it?

It has been some time since they got rid of FP for the HM.I am not sure why they did it either.

The ride has a very high load rate [no idea what it is], even the longest of lines moves quickly.

Haunted Mansion is known as a "people eater" because they can cycle through a lot of guests per hour since the ride vehicles never stop.

I was there in April, 2004 for Easter...and I think the FP machines were still up and running.

By the time I got there in November, 2004 for Honeymoon, they were covered.

FP was not necessary for Haunted Mansion because, like many others have said, it has such a high turnover rate. It can move so many people very quickly as the doombuggies are constantly moving and the stretch rooms can pack in so many people.

A Cm told me that the FP area created so much conjestion, and the ride has such a large turn-around that they decieed to close it to see how it worked out. That was in March 2005. FP never returned. Obviously it worked.

They did a very long study at HM for FP efficency. With FP, the entrance area clogged, the wait time increased, guests started complaining. Without, the area opened up more (less congestion), the wait time wasn't affected, and the line kept moving. Yes, HM has a high OHRC (operational hourly ride capacity) and is able to "suck in" the line.

which always makes me wonder why Disney refuses to build these types of rides anymore, I mean they are major people eaters and have such high ohrc, as you said.
ok maybe not refuses, but omnimover attractions they just dont seem to do. I guess if they end up doing the Little Mermaid ride that would be the biggest new one in years. Nemo was the last one here I think, but its not the size or scale as haunted mansion or spaceship earth etc.

Also, it doesn't specifically have to be an Omnimover attraction... Boat rides like IASW and Pirates can also have through-put numbers approaching the Omnimovers...

True, I forgot the boat rides are high moving capacity too, those also are something they dont do anymore. Would love another boat ride. Lets get one running in Germany or Italy please at Epcot :)

They still build one, now and then. The new Nemo ride in EPCOT comes to mind.

They got rid of Fastpass at HM a while ago. HM really didn't need a fastpass as the lines really do move pretty fast.

Fastpass only slowed the lines down. As others have stated, guests were complaining.

Fastpass is a great invention, but not for rides that are pretty much ongoing.
