I dread that ride on DME. It usually ends a FANTASTIC vacation and even though we have been able to come back to Disney every year I still wonder If in today's time if we still will be able to return next year. We have gone through all the stages of question ( first child, then 2nd,then 3rd, then the teen years..bringing a friend....then one in college...then 2...and after last years trip knowing our 3rd will be entering college that sept) oh my god " will we be able to return next year?"....I HATE that ride back! **PS We will be returning in July!!!!.....HOW I DON'T KNOW....but we seem to figure it out

I hear you!! I have the same things run thru my head on the way back to MCO. I do find that the longer I am able to stay the less pain it is. After 11 days on vacation it was not as strong of a feeling after only being in the world for only 7 days. But there is always the fear of will we be able to afford a trip next year. I am very lucky to be going on a quick 4 day trip in 25 days but I have a huge fear that our CHRISTMAS trip for this year will not happen. The longer it takes DH to find a job the less the light shines at the end of the vacation tunnel. :( So I will make the best of this upcoming short trip just in case Christmas is not able to happen.

Every year when we walk out of the Magic Kingdom for the last night of our trip, I always glance back over my shoulder as the castle disappears behind me and think what if I don't get to come back next year? Usually I'm blinded by tears of sadness

I'm spoiled enough to get to go every year, but what if that changes? How would I cope with that? I'd probly end up like this: :hammer:

you're not alone! I'll tell you this... I need to have flights that bring me into MCO early, and depart for Boston late. This way I have at least a half day inside the parks to end off my vacation. I feel so bad for the families I see checking out at 7:30 AM from their resort! That has to be stressful!

But yes... the ride home of DME sucks... period! The worst is when you get to security and see you all of the balloons and Disney Parks bag. It's like the last sign of the world and now you have to go back home.

I actually had a pretty sad moment last week. My fiance went out to SFO and Napa for a week and I had the pleasure of picking her and her mother up at Logan. I park, walk down in the airport and the first luggage carousel I see is Jet Blue "Flight XXXX Orlando" with loads of people holding Disney bags. I instantly just became sour! She was wondering what was wrong with me and when we turned the corner... she saw and knew instantly!

I think every Disney enthusiast goes through the same experience. The beginning of your vacation you feel you have so much time.. then all of a sudden you are on the last day before your departure and you want to stop the clock! We rent a car.. so our last day we have breakfast at Kona( usually) them take a leisure walk around the resort.. take a spin on the monorail ....drag our feet ....then load in the car and head to the airport. I will tell you the scenery is def. not as nice going back then it is driving to.. for obvious reasons, lol!

There are a few Sad things that happen when you realize the whole trip is "Officially" Over..

1) Your Dreaded DME Tag on your Door the Day Before you leave.
2) The Drive off Property and you start seeing fast food places and stores again.:brick:
3) The DME video to Return to Orlando International when the Characters start singing The ending of the Mickey Mouse Club theme song.:(
4) And this is By Far The WORST...Standing in the Security line and watching the other families walking past The Magic of Disney Store and getting all excited as their trip begins and you feel like the weight of the world is coming at you hard & heavy..

I hate it when we are sitting there in waiting for board and seeing family get off a plane with DME booklet trying to figure out where to go...All I can think about is my vacation is over and they are just starting out.

At the beginning of the trip when the monorail goes "we hope you'll return home safely, and come see us again soon." I'm like yeah, just starting out, this is gonna be great!

Then at the end I'm like shut up monorail stop reminding me of my impending departure :(

I agree... I am nervous for my upcoming honeymoon in July! It's a 11 day adventure, which will be our longest trip. I'm fearing that the HUGE bill I am fitting for this may delay a trip for sometime. Although we bought AP's! So we will DEF be headed back within the 365 day mark so take advantage of the passes.

I hate seeing the ME bus pull into the resort to take us away. It gets worse when the driver puts on the video that says We hope you enjoyed your time with us and hope you hurry back, then shows the other events coming up that I know I won't be a part of. The absolute worst comes as I unpack the suitcases at home and take the Disney tags off.

The ride on DME back to the airport, has got to be the saddest ride in Disney World. The only way I combat the depression that sets in upon returning home, is grabbing the calendar and start planning for the following year's trip!! I vow, that even if I can't go on the exact days planned, I WILL make it back down to my favorite place on Earth, soon!! I keep telling myself, (although always doesn't sink in) the sooner I get home, the closer I am to my *first day* back on Disney soil!! NOTHING beats the first glimpse of the castle or hearing on the plane "ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Orlando" :sohappy:

That is the worst part of the trip is getting on that bus and hearing that sad sad song they play. This year Im doing something different.. Instead of leaving early in the am the last day.. I am leaving at 9am and I got 6 day hoppers instead of 5 so the last day I can spend in the parks.

We stay at the fort so its that last boat ride the night before we pack up and head home that gets me. As the boat slowly backs away from the dock at the MK it sets in that the magic is over. All I can do is hold back the emotion and hope we can come back next year.

We stay offsite at Westgate Villas. Its two miles from Disney. My realization that everything is over is when I ride the ferry back at the end of the night from MK. I always marvel at the beauty of the castle as we slowly drift away. I try to soak up every inch of the place that last ride over but I get into a put of sadness on the way back to the dock. I too always have uncertainty as to when I'm going to come back. I never have a trip booked all locked and loaded.

Then we take the tram back to our parking spot and we drive out and get the last touch of Disney magic when we see the sign that says: "See you real soon!" I never appreciate that as much at that time because I'm a little sad and its bittersweet.

On the plane ride home I always have something I read about Disney that I bought. Part of me wishes every person could experience that place just once but the other part of me knows how close minded some people can be that choose NEVER to experience it and I feel fortunate.

Does anyone else feel terrible when you wake up in the morning at your resort, mosey out to get some mickey waffles and fuel up for the coming day of fun, and see a family with all of their luggage, arms full of Disney keepsakes. That look on their face that tells you they're going back to the grey, bleak real world. It almost makes me want to go up and give them a hug. And I'm pretty antisocial. Not only that, but it reminds you of the impending doom of your departure. And it makes me want to cry..

Then I eat my Mickey waffles :sohappy:
