Has World Showcase seen its last ride addition?

All of the countries were traditionally sponsored by their respective governments or by private corporations when they were built. Presumably, if another wanted a country built, it could happen. But these days there are more cost-effective ways of marketing your country to tourists than building a theme park land.

Almost all. Surprisingly maybe, Canada was Mouse funded.

WS was very much meant to have an attraction in each country. Show buildings were planned in Italy and the UK, and were even build in Japan and Germany.

Actually just the ride entrance and load building was built in Germany. The show building was to go behind it. The load building is now split between a conference room and engineering services.

WS has something that none of the other parks have: the ability to let guests stroll and take their time to discover it without feeling the need to rush through from attraction to attraction.

If they ever decided to add more rides to WS I would hope that it's not an e-ticket ride. I also like that WS is a more quiet, easy going experience where you aren't rushing to beat the crowds to ride after ride. I think if they could make a ride that would really create and reflect the country it would be great. I would love to see a gondola ride in Italy. They could do a terrific job with that and it would make sense.

I just looked at WS on Google maps. Wow, I didn't realize how narrow some of the pavilion facades were. There are several places where it is possible to insert more pavilions. Or, if you prefer, add attractions. (But I prefer more pavilions. :))

It is only through usage and guest expectation that WS came to be a food&shopping theme park.

While world showcase is nice to stroll through, it is WAY too expensive. I'm sorry but dropping $30 or more on a plate is crazy. I wish their were more cheaper places featuring the same cuisines...I hate the idea of world showcase being more of a mall than anything.

I also am in the group that every country should have some type of show or ride...not necessarily E-tickets, but SOMETHING.

I love World Showcase and it’s actually my favorite part of WDW. I love to eat and drink so what’s not to love about this area. I do feel though that some attractions added wouldn't be a bad thing. I know many people were upset about Mr. Toad's Wild ride closing in Fantasyland and wishing to see a reincarnation in the UK portion of World Showcase and I feel that would have been a great idea There are character meet and greets in countries, like Snow White in Germany, Aladdin and Jasmine in Morocco so why not tie in some rides like this to their respective countries. I think it would help making this portion of the park more kid friendly.

Crush Dude!

Back from WDW!Counting down to DLP in November!
Not at the moment. A few years ago there were plans for an attraction in Germany or Japan. Japan won due to the available space and talks with sponsorship were good but the recession killed it.

Shame! What kind of attraction was planned or did it even get that far??

I think it's a bit unfair to call it simply a mall. Malls all over the country, even the world have the same crappy chain stores. The appeal of World Showcase is all the stuff from around the world it has in one place. It's things that are hard to find in one place anywhere else.

Exactly. It's such a different feel, and that's what's great about it.

Didn't know that! Would not have guessed that demand was so strong for, uh, Canada. :)

I haven't read the entire thread so if someone hasn't said it.......I was always hoping for Switzerland and an east coast Matterhorn!! Or they could just add an Alpine Mountain bobsled ride to Germany. I know.....just wishful thinking :)
