There's a Brazil pavilion in the Haunted Mansion queue? Man, I knew they messed up HM thematically with that graveyard, but I didn't realize they were that far off!
What happened with the talks of a Brazil pavilion?
When I worked there in '96 - '97 our info that we could spiel off about the showcase was that there are room for 7 more countries to be added.
I guess we didn't mention they WON'T be added - but hey, there's room
Yes. Twenty-five years ago. There is no ambition anymore to finish WS into a theme park with rides.
If anything, Disney regrets not having build WS as a kind of 'Boardwalk', with DVC and bars and entertainment venues.
As is, WS is about booze and gluttony. There's only so many plush toys you can take with you, but appetite, and especially for alcohol, is insatiable. So booze and food is what gets pushed.
It doesnt need rides, it already has 2 nice rides, the cultural experience, live music and performances, illuminations, the food, the beer and your walking thru an arboritum surounded by a beautyful lake with countrys and artwork all in one place, what more can you want. Its a peaceful, calm and fun place, you dont want to hear some loud ride with screaming, that would ruin the atmosphere.
I don't mind that there aren't many rides/attractions, and it would probably be a bad idea to add an E ticket to a country as it would give too much significance to that country over the others... but one or two omnimover dark ride editions couldn't hurt. Just sayin'.
WS was very much meant to have an attraction in each country. Show buildings were planned in Italy and the UK, and were even build in Japan and Germany.
I also am in the group that every country should have some type of show or ride...not necessarily E-tickets, but SOMETHING.
Prior to the construction of the Canadian pavilion, the Walt Disney corporation sought financial support for the attraction from the Canadian government. The company wanted the Federal government to fund the cost of building the attraction, in return the government would have input into the design and layout. The Canadian government was concerned about the stereotype of Canada that Disney wanted (i.e., lumberjacks). Funding was refused, and Disney threatened to pull the exhibit, but ultimately did not.
I would of been happy if they did not include Canada.
Most Americans have no clue about Canada any way and they learn nothing watching a 20 minute circle vision film.
For the most part all the pavilions including the USA pavilion are full of stereotypes.
The US got the 'WS treatment' in Liberty Square. LS is very much what I've always envisaged an American pavilion in WS would look like.It wasn't just the sterotypes that the Canadian government objected to. They wanted to use all fake totem poles and the Canadian government wanted all real ones done by a Canadian artist they were refused and an American did the only real one (and did a really crappy job of it if you have ever seen an authentic Canadian totem pole), they wanted to sell American merchandise with Canadian logos even though the Canadian government gave them hundreds of top Canadian brands to sell instead. They also wanted some French entertainment and merchadise available and were refused because it would "confuse the guests". They offered to fund some Canadian Olympic merchandise for sale but were turned down. They asked to have some Winnie the Pooh tie-ins since the bear was based off of a real bear named Winnepeg from Manitoba...no luck meaning no characters for Canada.
Also, as for the sterotype costumes. Canada didn't hate the lumberjack idea they just asked to have a traditional Acadian or Quebecois costume as well. Disney said no, then changed their mind and made the Le Cellier costumes since the lumberjack attire did not fit in with the restaurant.
Don't believe everything you see on Wikipedia :animwink: I think the very fact that Americans know nothing about Canada (ummm...hello we're neighbours) means there HAS to be a Canadian pavilion...but no worries, I would be happy if there was no U.S pavilion (as the way it is anyway). I completely understand why there HAS to be one but it is the only pavilion that I walk past without stopping unless something is happening on the stage. The theming isn't worth stopping for me and that is why I like other pavilions. It's a big brick building with no place to "get lost" in a different place like every other pavilion has. It seems like there should be more beauty and variety for a country so large but it's just a building. Though the HoP is a great spot to cool off and have a nap

Personally I'm very pleased with the America pavilion they build! I love it! It would be slightly silly to have a normal WS pavilion when the real thing is five miles down the road.
Is it my imagination, or did they use to announce the Canada film bilingually? Personally, I'm all 'Vive le Québec libre' and all that!
I think that there may be some movement in the next few years. I think Shanghai Disney Resort is going to get a World Showcase as its next park. I have read a lot of news story from Shanghai where the government wants at least three Disney parks in the Shanghai resort. They just had a very successful world fair with people waiting hours in line to get into some of the counties pavilions. So the Shanghai government thinks that this would work very well at Disney. Maybe if some county designs and builds something in Shanghai it could be duplicated in Florida. My guess is that the Shanghai government will want design to start on the second park as soon as first phase opens in 2015, if not sooner.
