dis·crim·i·na·tion

noun
the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.

So based on your ground breaking research of googling a definition, how does being denied a speaking role based on political party or liberal opposition not apply?

Wow. I didn't form an opinion.
If anything I think this supports yours. Maybe I'll just delete it if you're going to act like that.

My preference is that they add a president after they leave office... and wait a few months on top of that so half the country can hate the sitting president and forget all about the previous one. ;)
Totally agree. While a President is in office there will be more of a backlash, regardless of political party. Wait until they have left, then have a speaking role based on their biggest accomplishment or one of their most inspiring speeches.

I know exactly what you are saying. You are saying that it is okay to discriminate against those you don't like. If this was a discussion about any other group or person, it would be criminal.

I however, believe all presidents deserve to be treated equally, and have equal roles in the attraction, whether you like them or not.

Does that mean all presidents will have a speaking role all the time in the attraction? That show will take forever!;)

I like the tradition Disney started of having the current president speak, and if they continue with this president and future presidents fine. If they decide to end it with this president and others going forward that is fine too. If I don't want to listen to a certain president past, present, or those in the future I simply won't go in.

In the course of our American history some presidents have been reviled or thought ill of (just think of Hoover, the Adams, Nixon, Andrew Johnson to name a few) and some have been revered (Roosevelts, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Washington, Lincoln). All have earned the presidency one way or another and will leave a legacy good or bad. I think it is an office that should be respected but the person filling the office doesn't always deserve respect, it is earned through actions. I would not boo during the HOP or cheer for a certain president either, its a Disney purified American history attraction, something for entertainment. I think @SteveAZee had a good idea of putting them in after they are done to highlight their mark, but I guess the down side of that is it leaves the attraction always outdated.

It is strange though that it is taking so long to get it back up and running. Oh well, at least the Muppets are there to entertain and educate us!:)

No, it means each new president has had a speaking role, and that should continue. This isn't about Trump. This is about the integrity of the Hall of Presidents, and that all presidents should be represented equally. Beginning to pick and choose what role each president has adds a subjective outlook on the attraction I find troubling. The Hall of Presidents is not a social club. The idea is to showcase our presidents and their contribution. If we were discussing a Disney Legend, my opinion would change to include their character. But in the context of the Hall of Presidents, one president should not be discounted over another.

I agree if they end it with Trump, it needs to continue forward with future presidents, and I have no inside information to suggest Trump has given Disney resistance on this topic. But on the surface, the intention should be fair representation for all.

How does it not fit? The argument is if you don't like Trump, then he should be excluded from having a speaking role, or delay the attraction altogether, even though every other president has. You must have a different definition of discrimination.
Simply put, it's the same as playing with matches around a pool of gasoline or yelling out FIRE in a crowded theater. The nation is volatile right now, it isn't discrimination to take the wise route, when it is your own idea. No president said to Disney "You have to have a speaking part for sitting presidents, no matter what you think". It is up to them and in an effort to avoid confrontation and harm it is better to remain silent and be thought the fool, than to speak out and erase all doubt.

It seems in the current political climate it is a no win situation for Disney- speak or don't speak you will anger both sides. IMO just go back to the 1971 original script. As others have posted the HoP is a very brief history of this nation presented by Lincoln and is not ment to be political. Have a roll call of all the Presidents nothing more. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe speaking rolls for sitting Presidents began with Clinton, a resent change. It's just a show with inanimate objects on stage nothing more, if you feel compelled to make comments during the show you are just exhibiting your immaturity to the rest of us. my 2 cents

It seems strange that this thread (or any thread on the HoP) is outside of the politics forum...it's impossible to discuss this w/o discussing politics.

Anyway, 100% agreed that it's ludicrous to suggest that it's "discriminatory" to oppose adding Trump to this attraction when the reason we are even having this discussion in the first place is that Trump himself is prejudiced. All presidents will make decisions and espouse causes that people disagree w/...Those on the left will take issue w/ conservative-leaning presidents and vice versa, that's natural. Unlike Obama, Bush or any other president in recent memory (regardless of party), Trump has made people of many different races & creeds feel actively unsafe. If Disney decides that alienating these people will lose them $$$ and customer satisfaction in the long-term, they have every right to exclude him. Putting aside whatever your party alignment might be, you have to see on some level that this goes beyond hurt feelings.

IMO, Disney would be better off discontinuing the tradition of adding each new president to the HoP. If Disney truly feels that politics has no place at the parks, then it should have no place in attractions.

That said, I'm convinced Trump will show up in HoP anyway. I'd be completely shocked if he didn't.

Let me first say I am Trump neutral. I would like to know what facts you base your assumption that Trump is prejudice and in what specific ways (pased laws or actions) has he caused certain groups to feel unsafe

Any further political posts will be deleted, as you all seem to know that there are TWO threads discussing this topic in the Politics forum. A simple question was asked, and unless you have an update as to the opening, or wish to discuss the attraction without becoming political, please go to the other threads. Thank you.

It is Disney's attraction, so they can do with it whatever they want - add/don't add, speak/don't speak or just shutter it...

But it is a nice place to sit on a hot summer day....
