They can simply close it. That costs nothing and maybe could be some sort of tax write off if closed.

Stitch was closed for whatever reason and never reopened.
That’s an option but there are costs to that too. For one, closing HoP right now would spark enormous blowback and further drag Disney’s already tarnished image through the mud. Secondly, attractions make money. That’s why they’re open. Losing another one, especially with a significant number of attractions going off line next year, would cost Disney badly needed capacity. As such, they’re probably going to go with the easiest path: simple update with existing Trump audio bites from 2017.

I really don't think Disney cares about blowback.
Examples:
Harmonious.
Starcruiser.
The EPCOT renovation.
Their entire slate of movies in 2023
There are others.

Also, lets say this. They close HoP as usual for the transition but during the work something happens; plumbing rupture, a fire, mold discovered, whatever, they can simply spin it as the were going re open as usual but because circumstances beyond their control HoP will be closed indefinitely.

I will take my tinfoil hat off now. ;)

If HOP closes, it's going to be because it's sitting at the near bottom of MK attractions in terms of guest ratings.

I believe you may be right.

But I have an idea. Newly formed. What if:

You took the Presidents and positioned them along the path you use to navigate Swiss Family Treehouse? They could all have little placards explaining who they are. It would turn it into an educational experience for the little ones.

Might solve the attendance problem for both attractions.

If that doesn’t work. Just move the whole thing to Epcot. Turn it into a bar. And call it: “Drinkin’ with Lincoln (and friends)”.

If the ride or show does not generate LL $$$$$ it will be axed in the next few years. They are closing large capacity low demand shows for smaller throughput high demand IP rides. Bob does not want capacity, they want demand.

Not to mention the whole Rivers of America fiasco. The only thing Disney’s afraid of is losing money.

Harmonious - Gone. (As well as Enchanted)

Starcruiser - Gone.

2023 Slate of Movies - the 2024 slate is drastically different

Ya sure they ain't listening?

Something about mold in HoP makes it a lot harder to recover than Mermaid. :)

If they want to keep the attraction, simply add the new president when there is one, and keep the show strictly about the office. Have some famous (long gone) presidents give speeches, the end.

The thing that I don't comprehend about the "controversy" of HOP in its current form is why somebody who would be upset about the current animatronic that sort of maybe looks like the current President and moves in sync with a recording would even walk into the building. For all attractions at WDW, I enter the queue to experience them because I have decided that I am going to enjoy experiencing the attraction.
Isn't he lack of movement kind of the point, though? If about 50% of their visitors on a given day wouldn't want to visit an attractions for political reasons whoever the president is at a given moment, then it makes sense to review whether that attraction continues to be the best use of money and space.

I would close it for the typical refurb, with no intention of reopening it. Work on donating the show to the Smithsonian or something in D.C., Philadelphia, or Boston. Pay to move it, donate some $$$, make a big splash about celebrating American history where it happened.

While doing that I’d put my staff on developing a replacement. Look at all alternatives from reusing for a theater show to demo and rebuild. Start work long before I announce anything. And once about 75% done, finally announce what’s coming.

But that’s just me…

I don't think it's 50% of the public that doesn't want to visit. It's probably more like 5% at the very most.

Keep in mind, this is a group that is so sensitive and fragile that the idea of even being in the same room as a robotic likeness of a POTUS that they don't like is enough to keep them away from a chance to get off their feet and cool off. I don't have data on it obviously, but my gut tells me this is a vanishingly small number of people.
