Hall of Presidents Previews Today

The entire area has been spruced up during the HM/HoP refurbs. There are still some tarps up in the area but by the time you get there everything should be "new". The characters were removed from LTT also, and while there were complaints, I think it was the wise choice to return LS to it's original concepts and designs. I think it could be said Liberty Square is now the best it's ever been.

Thanks. Really looking forward to seeing all the new LS stuff in Aug. Last trip HM was still in refurb.

I missed BOTH cast previews, but was around for the soft opening today. I consider it the second straight phenominal major refurb in Liberty Square (and the Liberty Belle was fixed up pretty well, too). It's much less of a kitschy show I use to go on for the laughs and now something I find to be legitimately fascinating, and the animatronics are even better.

I really don't get the fascination with Andrew Jackson, though. It was what I use to always make fun of in the old show: they spent more time on Jackson than any president but Lincoln, which just seemed random and weird to me. And this time, Morgan Freeman might actually spend more time on him than any president. My girlfriend and I were laughing so hard, I just don't understand it. It's like some inside Imagineer joke where they kid with eachother that he's really the one who belongs on Mount Rushmore, and they carry that joke on th the show. I mean, Andrew Jackson? Really? Why? It's a little less weird now that they do spend time on the Roosevelts and such, but still, they don't get quite the slobber fest Jackson gets.

Also, I always thought Morgan Freeman should be the voice of the HoP.

I had the same reaction you had over AJ with the FDR "slobber fest". And I'm sure Native Americans aren't exactly enthusiastic over Jackson or Lincoln. Democracy is so difficult.

This is the best post I have ever seen on this website. "Rasolu came with Iger for free press at an attraction opening!!! So he OBVIOUSLY cares about the parks!!!"

Umm, they were not at the opening. It was a very preliminary show and I still have not found one article mentioning their being at the HoP. Sorry, but you are just grasping now.

Are you saying Rasolu went so he could get the publicity of having it mentioned on a WDWMagic forum? I am sure Steve would be flattered.

Also, I wasn't expecting the construction walls down today. I did know the Small World walls were supposed to come down around right now, I had just forgotten. But yeah, everything is so gorgeous in that way that you can't put your finger on, but you know that something you've seen 1,000 times now looks better than the last time you saw it.

This is the best news I've heard on HOP. Jacksonian Era...He was seriously crazy, in an awesome way.

-Andrew Jackson, after being saved from certain death by waterfall from a friend, whilst being chased by Indians...

"The Falls almost had me, but we haven't time to lose. Follow me, I'll save you yet..."

I like this guy.

Ooooh, so AJ, gets a large part, too? VERY interesting!

He was quite controversial, but a dynamic president. The Bank, Trail of Tears...Interesting.

I need to dig out my copy of American Lion now...

Can you tell us what they said about him?

Yeah, he has that stigma. But when you think about it, he's the only president to have an era named specifically after him (Jacksonian Era of Democracy). Not unfitting for him to be given some attention in my opinion.

Definitely. Nobody can say that this version is completely sanitized for PC purity and that is an encouraging trend. All human beings are flawed but to competely discount them for their different perspectives common in a different era seems quite extremist to me. Of course there is a line out there but AJ and AL can't be considered extreme by any measure IMO.

Right. That in itself says something.

He was the first "common man" pres. I'm kinda shocked it took them thins long to mention him.

If it's history, it should be covered. That's that...:lol:

for those who have seen it..any comments about this review?

President Barack Obama -- has just been unveiled, but because his likeness is so... unlike him, so incredibly, terrifyingly creepy...

I agree, I don't think it looks very much like him. They certainly didn't do a Depp style job. As well, Washington doesn't look like any painting I have seen.

BTW: What is he doing after the oath of office? He turns and puts his hand toward the table but to what end?

Not really, no. He gets several few minutes talking about just him and how great he was. It talks a lot about how great it was for a commoner to be president. In the last show they obviously spent a minute talking about how he was "brilliant" and "bold," and it was only a few seconds, but it was more time than they spent on any other president as they didn't even talk about most of them. This time they do talk about several other presidents, but Jackson still gets a lot more attention.

Ah, very interesting.

I am so glad they are delving deeper into History for this. Jackson is rarely mentioned in a "Happy" Disney Americana show.:D Adds credibility.
