I'm honestly not sure, you may be right. I did see in some of the other forums I follow that some people had left the line and been given return times, but they didn't say if it was weather-related.
I can promise you that Universal nor any other major theme park will give you a "return time" just because of weather. A technical down time? Sure. Weather no... The only time a theme park will give you compensation for something is when they were at fault for the situation.

That's not true, I've gotten a paper fast pass before at Disney when a ride (test track) has gone down for weather.

Then you got lucky my dear, because Cast and Team members are not supposed to do that. The one exception to this is the fastpass plus system at Disney but that's different because you already reserved a time for that ride.

Literally every person in this thread said it overall looks great or fantastic.

Except certain people are then following that up with a degree of criticism that logically leads one to believe they don't actually think that. When you simply throw a superlative adjective at something and then spend the majority of your post picking it apart, it's less than convincing. Where are the pros that made them think "This looks great?"

Personally, I'm not a fan of critiquing rides based on Internet videos, unless it's something you know you'll probably never get to ride. If you plan on riding it, why even spoil it for yourself?

There's no need for the condescending posture. It wasn't luck, nor something that was asked for. A CM was handing them out as people left the queue.

It happens sometimes, but the official policy is that you aren't supposed to get anything for weather downtimes.

You're probably right, and I don't think anyone is entitled to it either. With all of the other planning and what I had seen on other sites, it sounded like something that they were doing yesterday.

They bought an Express Pass for the day then stood in line for 7 hours for an attraction that doesn’t even accept the Express Pass?

:joyfull::joyfull::joyfull: That’s his own fault.

Yes, yes it is. The only point I was trying to make there was that it seemed like Universal wasn't just turning people away.

Can anyone clarify whether or not there's truth to the rumors that this ride cost $300 Million?

Considering that's 3x Expedition Everest, more than double Forbidden Journey, and 100 mil shy of the Diagon Alley expansion, I find that number hard to believe despite seeing it reported repeatedly.

Not that it's a confirmation, but it is what was reported in the news yesterday. Seems excessive.

Do you think it might include the demolition of Duelling Dragons and a lot of landscaping work?

This looks amazing! I can't wait to see it in person, won't be going until Dec. but from what I've seen so far, it fits in the land beautifully! I'll reserve judgement on some of the show elements until I see it in person, but I'm not usually too critical since I'm usually grateful for the opportunity to experience new offerings. My childlike wonder kicks in, and I'm usually taken in. It looks fun and immersive. I'm in.

Indeed - not that the ride isn't good, but for an almost entirely outdoor coaster with an unthemed track featuring, what, 6-7 animatronics? The ride vehicle is unique, the indoor show scene is nice, and they certainly did a lot of planting, but I can't see how that accounts for 3 times more than Everest, which built a literal 20 story mountain around its coaster of comparable length and intensity. Not to do any pitting of Dis against Uni. The numbers just don't quite add up against what's there in this ride, fun though it looks. It's the least themed of the major HP attractions, how could it cost the most?

It must include the landscaping, but I'd be surprised if it includes demo of Dueling Dragons. Imagine if Disney folded the 20,000 Leagues reclamation into the cost of New Fantasyland.

And even if it does include that, it's not like Dueling Dragons was an especially complex attraction to remove. It cost money, sure, but it shouldn't be a grossly significant amount.

It's pretty likely that it's being misreported. I just saw this in the Tampa Bay Times.

"Universal planted more than 1,000 live trees to create the Forbidden Forest and likely spent more than $300 million on this attraction, estimated theme park expert Dennis Speigel of International Theme Park Services. And it’s money well-spent, he said, given that attendance at Islands of Adventure jumped 76 percent from 4.6 million in 2009 before Harry Potter to about 8.1 million in 2013, according to estimates by the Themed Entertainment Association."
