We stayed at the HoJo in August. It was clean, easy walk to the parks, convenient to Panera and McD's for quick drink or ice cream on way back from parks. We had a decent view of the fireworks. It did the job for the price and how little time we spent there (to sleep only).

The offsite scooter rental place is in the Tropicana hotel. Somebody asked that the other day in another forum I'm on.

Still contemplating a DL trip with the wife...now looking at late April and early May to get away from spring break.

I am a little torn between 5 or 6 park days. This could be our one and only trip to DL (especially without kids) so I want make it count but the additional cost to make day 6 happen is relatively significant for our budget.

For a couple who spends all day in the park (rope drop to close), tries to ride/watch everything, and still wants enough time to take pictures, take it all in, and appreciate the detail, is 5 days enough time?

I think 5 Days, if you're planning on spending the entire time at the resort, is fine. Remember, everything is so close together you can walk back and forth between the 2 parks and DTD all day. Have a great trip! :)

May might be getting into grad days, so be watchful for those.

What should I expect the nighttime spectacular schedule to be late in late April or early May....weekends only?

Also, is there any time of year fireworks cancellation due to atmospheric conditions is more prevalent than others or is the chance more or less equal year-round?

Yikes. Thanks for mentioning that. Looks they start May 4. Will have to take that into consideration if we decide to pull the trigger.

Something else to consider:

"The new Southern California residents salute tickets offer up to 25 percent off select multi-day tickets:
  • 2-day ticket with choice of one park per day for $159
  • 2-day Park Hopper ticket for $204
  • 3-day ticket with choice of one park per day for $199
  • 3-day Park Hopper ticket for $244
Southern California residents may purchase tickets at www.Disneyland.com/SoCal and at Disneyland Resort ticket booths. Tickets are valid January 8 through May 24, 2018, excluding the following blockout dates: March 23 through April 8, 2018. You may purchase up to 5 tickets per person per day with valid ID."

You practically need a degree to try and plan a trip to the DLR!

Thanks, Constance. Every tidbit of info helps.

Our window is pretty much mid/late April thru about early May due to my wife's work schedule and other things we have going on. At the very least our hope was to slip in between Easter/Spring Break and the end of the year field-trip/grad/summer vacation crowds and hopefully only deal with moderate crowd sizes, especially if we go during some weekdays. The only drawback I foresaw with mostly weekdays was the parades and fireworks schedule which is why I asked the question in post #634.

Pixar Play Parade will run daily at Disneyland, and World of Color will run daily at DCA.

Fantasmic will likely by Fri-Sun only outside of the spring break period.

Together Forever fireworks (DL) and Paint the Night parade (DCA) will for sure run Fri-Sun, but there's a strong possibility of a daily run during Pixar Fest, which starts April 13 for at least 4 months or so.

I would schedule your trip to include a Friday and Saturday in the parks (Sundays are always the worst due to APs). That way you're covered in the event that fireworks and PTN aren't daily, and you'll get to see Fantasmic, which is a must.

What is a realistic expectation for the completion of the Pixar Pier overlay work, including Incredicoaster and Mickey's Fun Wheel? It seems unlikely they both would be completed and opened by late April.

I have my hotel and dates picked, but I'm not sure how to best manage the crowds or if Mickey's Halloween Party will be worth it this year if they do move it back to DCA. I'll be there the first weekend of October, which is also Gay Days based on previous years.

How far in advance do they sell Halloween party tickets?

I believe around July is when tickets for Halloween start going on sale for Disneyland. Keep your eye on the parks blog around that time, as they announce when tickets go on sale there. It's always way after WDW starts selling theirs, which is maybe around May.

Do we think Pixar Pier will be open for Pixar Fest? And by this I mean the not the rides or restaurants, but the shops or Boardwalk games? Maybe the facades? I feel like they would because they are far ahead of schedule.

Not likely. It's possible you'll see some thing soft opening between Memorial Day and June 23, but not before then.

I've got one day of my upcoming DL trip set aside for some non-Disney touring. I have never been to LA, California, or the Pacific Ocean. Any suggestions in regards to what I can realistically get to and see in a day? Thinking of renting a car but am open to other options.
