Guess the 50 Golden Statues

We may be getting Ariel. That other site's list included her, and although they haven't been 100% accurate, they've hit a lot of characters most people wouldn't have guessed like Abu and Bruni.

I honestly do believe these are 1:1 scale statues, so it makes sense there aren't any princesses; they'd be huge. Joe Gardner cheats this by being seated, and Edna Mode is very, very short canonically.

Even if Ariel were one, she wouldn't be standing, she'd be seated on a rock.

What about Goofy?

What? Many of these won’t even be close to 1:1.

What about Goofy?

Concept art again, down in the lower left:

The Goofy statue is pretty large, appropriately larger than the Mice on the right side. Costumed characters are not scale, obviously, but since Goofy towers over the Mice usually his costumed CM has to be larger than they are.

Then there's this:

R2 and Dante have a person next to them for scale, and they're pretty close to being life-sized. Dante in particular is very Dog-sized. The Mad Hatter is cartoonishly small compared to Alice.

Them being 1:1 (or close to it) informs their decision making behind the choices, in my opinion. Having a dozen princesses in ball gowns would take up a lot of space, but a small monkey like Abu or a shorter popular character like Edna Mode is easier to fabricate and easier to place down.

Frozone in HS.

He was kind of an "out there" prediction on the Other Site. He was also the Arm I was trying to figure out from the behind the scenes footage. From that video, we can reasonably assume he's fairly big:

Another kind of "meh" choice that doubles up on a film already represented.

I would be interested to know what the logic was behind which characters were selected.
Marketing.

It's always marketing.

When fans argue about who should or shouldn't be a "Disney Princess" using distinctions between hand-drawn or 3D, Disney Animation or Pixar, protagonist or supporting cast, born into royalty or married into it or not at all royal (o, hai, Mulan!)... it comes down to one thing: Marketing. Self-admitted by Disney when creating the brand.

There's merch and a brand image that Disney is marketing. There's the 'logic' of it.

Frozone's cool (no pun intended), but has he ever been a particularly marketable character? I don't recall seeing a lot of Frozone merchandise while at Disney World.

Sam Jackson is marketable in and of himself. And Frozone has one of, if not the most iconic line in the movie over any other character.

looking at this list of characters that mostly are B level characters it hurts my heart we arent getting walle and eve, i could understand if it was all Alist. I can also understand if it was all recency bias (so no fox and the hound). But Walle and eve would a) have been great statues b) kind of fit the level of character they picked c) are fairly recent
I mean walle and eve in epcot would have been a match made in heaven.... in front of space 220 or the land
